DEVELOPMENT HISTORY

Age of Mythology: Retold — is a remaster of the classic real-time strategy Age of Mythology, released in 2002. Developed by World's Edge in collaboration with Forgotten Empires, the project promises to be not just an update, but a complete rework of the original game. Development began with the idea of creating something more than a simple graphical update. The team aimed to offer players a modernized experience that would retain the spirit of the original, but meet modern standards.

The project was announced in October 2022, and since then the developers have been actively sharing information about the development progress. The team's main goal is to combine the best of the classic Age of Mythology with modern design and graphics elements. This includes not only updating the visuals, but also reworking the game engine, adding new mechanics and improving the game balance. The development was carried out taking into account the feedback and suggestions of the community, which allowed us to create a product that should satisfy both long-time fans and new players.

GRAPHICS

Graphics in Age of Mythology: Retold has been significantly improved over the original. Using a modern engine based on the technologies used in Age of Empires III: Final Edition, has achieved a high level of detail and realism. The game supports ray tracing, which adds depth and realism to lighting and shadows. Visual effects, such as character and environment animations, have been completely redesigned to meet 2024 standards.

The developers paid special attention to the details of the environment and mythical creatures, which are key elements of the game. Each map in the game was developed taking into account modern graphics capabilities, which allows to convey the atmosphere of mythological worlds with their unique landscapes and architecture. Improved textures, particle effects and dynamic lighting create a more lively and immersive picture that should impress both new players and veterans of the series.

GAME ENGINE

Age of Mythology: Retold uses an updated version of the game engine, which was modernized specifically for this project. It is based on the engine used in Age of Empires III: Final Edition, but the developers went much further, adding support for new technologies such as ray tracing and more advanced lighting and animation systems.

One of the main features of the engine is the ability to handle a larger number of units on the screen, which allows for a significant expansion of strategic planning capabilities. This change fundamentally changes the mechanics of the game, making it more dynamic and intense. The engine also integrates an improved physics system, which allows for realistic simulation of destruction and object interactions.

The engine delivers high performance on modern platforms, including PC and Xbox Series X|S, making the game accessible to a wider audience. Improved animation and sound systems create a more immersive gaming experience that should satisfy both fans of the original and new players.

Testing of video memory consumed by the game was carried out by the program MSI Afterburner. The indicator was based on the results on video cards from AMD and NVIDIA with separate screen sizes 1920x1080, 2560x1440 and 3840x2160 with various anti-aliasing settings. By default, the graph displays the most current solutions. Other video cards are added and removed from the schedule at the request of the reader.
