Fallout: London is an ambitious project that began life in 2019 as a modification to the game Fallout 4. Development began with the initiative of a small group of enthusiasts seeking to create a unique world that would transport players to post-apocalyptic London.
Initial stages
Initially, the project faced many difficulties. The team, consisting of amateurs and professionals, faced the challenges of scaling the game world. In the first year of work, the developers created a world that turned out to be too large for the game engine. The inability to unite the work of all participants led to the need to restart the development. Participants call this stage of development “the year of eating crayons.” After this restart, the project became more structured and focused.
Impact of the pandemic
The COVID-19 pandemic has had an unexpected positive impact on development. While many game studios faced delays and problems, the Fallout: London team was able to focus on the project. Travel restrictions allowed many team members to spend more time on development, which led to a faster process and the introduction of many innovations, such as functioning trains and new game mechanics.
Main Achievements
One of the first significant milestones was the creation of a world that reflected the atmosphere of London. The developers have worked on each district of the city, adding unique elements and factions. For example, the Pistols gang is now active in the Camden area, and Greenwich is controlled by a group of sailors, the Jack Tars. These and other areas are filled with various threats and opportunities to explore, making every walk through post-apocalyptic London an unforgettable experience.
