The Radeon R7 370 sits at the bottom of the company's product line, based on the Pitcairn GPU, also known as Curacao. It is one of the oldest GPU, used in the Radeon 300 series, models such as the Radeon HD 7850 and R7 265 are based on a chip with exactly the same characteristics.

The Radeon R7 370 model is based on a Pitcairn/Curacao/Trinidad chip that has been reduced in the number of functional units. In this modification of the graphics processor, four computing devices are disabled (out of 20 computing devices, 16 remain active). This gives a total of 1024 stream processors instead of 1280 ALUs for the full version. The same applies to texture units: their number has been reduced from 80 TMU to 64 TMU, since each GCN unit contains four texture units. In terms of the number of ROP blocks and memory controllers, these chips are the same; they have 32 ROP blocks and four 64-bit memory controllers, giving a common 256-bit bus.

The operating frequencies of the new Radeon R7 370 video card are slightly higher than those of the R7 265 and even higher than the frequencies of the Radeon HD 7850. The graphics processor in the model under consideration received a frequency of 1050 MHz, and the video memory of the new product operates at a frequency of 5.7 GHz. The use of fast GDDR5 memory provides a fairly high bandwidth for this price segment of 182 GB / s, which can have a positive effect on rendering at high separate screen resolutions. The memory capacity of this model can be 2 or 4 GB, the lower value is logical for a budget video card, and the upper one can help when using 4K monitors.

The newly released Radeon R7 370 graphics card supports all the same technologies as previous models based on the same GPU. We have already written about all the new technologies supported by AMD graphics chips in the relevant reviews. In particular, the video card in question has support for the new Mantle graphics API, which helps in the effective use of the hardware capabilities of AMD graphics processors, without being limited by the shortcomings of the existing graphics APIs: OpenGL and DirectX. However, after the imminent release of DirectX 12, this will no longer be a special advantage.

As for the performance of the new model, it can be up to 20% inferior to older models based on the same Pitcairn chip, which is explained by the different number of active GCN execution units. The additional four CUs give the higher-end GPU higher theoretical peak math speeds and texture fetch and filtering performance, although they have equal ROP unit performance and video memory bandwidth.
