The core contains 320 active ALUs, assembled into 64 superscalar computing units of 5 ALUs + a branch control unit each. It also includes 4 texture processors, equivalent to 16 TMUs, 4 raster operations processors, or, in ATI terms, render-back ends, approximately equivalent to 16 ROPs, as well as a Compositing Engine, which is necessary for the functioning of the CrossFire hardware mode. Like its older brother, the ATI Radeon HD 3850 has two CrossFire connectors and can be used to build a multi-GPU complex consisting of four such cards.
The card is equipped with a standard set of connectors. It includes two dual-channel DVI-I ports with HDCP support and a resolution of 2560x1600 and a universal seven-pin mini-DIN port responsible for organizing analog video output in Composite, S-Video or YPbPr formats. VIVO functionality, like the ATI Radeon HD 3870, is missing and there is no space for the corresponding chip on the board, but a more relevant feature these days, digital audio output via the HDMI interface is fully supported using a special DVI-I- adapter >HDMI.
