Overwatch: review on Nintendo Switch
BASIC GAME INFORMATION |
developer: Blizzard Entertainment
Publisher: Blizzard Entertainment
Game release dates: May 2016
Genres: Action, Online
The game takes place in a futuristic world inhabited by humans, humanoids and cybernetically enhanced creatures. You will become part of an international department called Overwatch, which must bring peace to the planet. Overwatch is a fast-paced multiplayer shooter designed for session play. In it, real players fight serious 6v6 battles, in which each player's ability to act as a team is revealed. The outcome of the battle depends on the clear positioning of your role.
And the roles here are as follows: maneuverable attack aircraft, inventive defense, fearless tank and judicious support. Each character, without exception, requires maximum knowledge of their capabilities and individual playstyle. Also, the use of roles, and the tactics of the team as a whole, change depending on the selected mode: capturing points and escort. The first involves guarding or unraveling the secrets hidden in the Temple of Anibus. Accompanied, you need to protect or destroy a device with an EMP, the point of movement of which will be Kings Row.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION |
Overwatch has a program version of 1.0.4. When purchasing a game in a store Nintendo downloads it to a MicroSD card or internal memory.
The total size of the downloaded game is about 12 gigabytes.
GAME ENGINE |
Overwatch runs on its own Tank Engine, which takes full advantage of DirectX 11. The engine was designed for use by Blizzard Entertainment in its own games.
We were unable to find detailed information other than our own visual observations.
CONTROL |
The control settings are standard, as for other consoles. Each character has a different set of skills.
There is not much variety in control settings.
SETTINGS |
There are practically no graphics settings in the game, only brightness and contrast are available.
Well, then let’s see how the game differs in portable and TV modes.
COMPARISON OF TV AND PORTABLE MODE |
In this review, we presented comparisons of the rendering quality of stationary and portable modes:
As we can see, when we switch to portable mode, we only lose anti-aliasing, which is absolutely unnoticeable in a portable mode.
OVERALL GAMING IMPRESSION |
Well, Overwatch showed itself very well on the Nintendo Switch, showing excellent performance and an almost perfect picture, both in the desktop and on the portable, with a very comfortable frame rate. The game loads quite quickly and does not experience any major problems with the servers.
It is also worth noting the convenient aiming with gyroscopes, which has already been previously implemented in games on the Nintendo Switch. Aiming is quite easy and the quality almost matches the PC version of the game.
GAME PROCESS |
Well, below are 30 minutes of play on the console itself:
Disadvantages:
- you will need to have an active Nintendo Switch Online after the first 3 months of purchasing the game (3 months come with the game as a gift)
Advantages:
- excellent picture quality
- one of the best representatives of competitive online games on a portable device
