Genre: Action
developer: Team Bondi
Publishing house: Rockstar Games

Postwar America, Hollywood's Golden Age. Cole Phelps, detective of the Los Angeles Police Department, does not have quiet days: in the rapidly developing metropolis, corruption and drug trafficking flourish, murders and robberies are constantly committed. Phelps is committed to serving the law and relentlessly fighting crime that has taken root even among his colleagues. Arsons and racketeering, brutal murders and conspiracies - unraveling the ominous tangle, over time the detective will get close to the most carefully guarded secrets of the City of Angels mired in sins ...

Using revolutionary facial animation technology to capture the nuances of acting, LA Noire weaves fast-paced action sequences and measured, brooding detective work into a gripping, interactive narrative like no other. You will investigate brutal crimes, intrigues and conspiracies inspired by the true events of 1947, one of the bloodiest periods in the history of Los Angeles. You'll search for clues, make arrests, and interrogate witnesses as you try to unravel a web of secrets and intrigue in a city where everyone has something to hide.

GAME ENGINE

LA Noire is based on Team Bondi's in-house engine using facial motion capture technology and animation software. Ever since a bunch of pixels began to look like more than just a bunch of aliens, the gaming industry has dreamed of creating a thing that stands on top of everything - a game indistinguishable from a movie, except that you could control the main character. And LA Noire has apparently found the embodiment of this holy grail.

The game took five years to make, the visual side was lovingly polished, Los Angeles in 1947 was meticulously recreated from aerial photographs, there were a minimum of graphics glitches, all trailers were edited from gameplay videos, nothing was embellished in them. The only thing the eye notices is that the faces of the characters are animated better than the bodies; to capture all the movements of the characters, producer McNamara used Motion Scan.

The MotionScan system, developed by the wizards at Team Bondi, turns a set of polygons and textures into a real, living face. In LA Noire you can observe the slightest change in facial expression. The emotions of the characters, be it sadness, fear, hatred, anger, can be “read” simply by looking at the interlocutor.

Thus, the first impression of conversations is striking. You watch every movement of your lips in fascination, trying to emerge victorious from an emotional duel. Phelps' correct actions cause a storm of joy, and the malicious grins of the suspects make the blood boil and continue to work with double energy. After this, you look at facial animation in other projects with regret, they are so hopelessly behind LA Noire.

CONTROL

The control settings are standard, as for the console version of the program. It plays many times better than on a PC, since the game was originally developed specifically for gamepads. There are a lot of control settings sub-items, all for people...

SETTINGS

But there are practically no graphics settings in the game, all that is available to us is the game in black and white and adjusting the brightness.

Well, then let’s see how the game differs from the PC version.

MODES COMPARISON between Nintendo Switch and PC

Now let's compare it with the PC version of the project. The “medium”, “low” and “high” settings were taken as the basis.

In the first case, seeing something in the dark and identifying differences is very problematic.

In the second case, the portable version is equal to the maximum settings on the PC.

Well, in the third case, the Nintendo Switch version is not only not inferior to the maximum PC settings, but also has a number of visual improvements, we can say that in this case, it is much more interesting than personal computers.

OVERALL GAMING IMPRESSION

Maybe it's personal nitpicking or something else, but the game plays better in handheld mode than on TV or the PC version. Apparently portability has not yet become commonplace, and such a large game feels like something out of the ordinary.

And on The Nintendo Switch game feels smoother than on a PC, since there are no visible microlags that are present even on the most powerful hardware.

GAME PROCESS

Well, below are the first 15 minutes on the console itself:

Disadvantages:

- whoever needed it, finished the game a long time ago...

Advantages:

- graphically updated game version

- slightly lower price about other Nintendo games

- portability of a AAA-worthy game
