RTX 5090 and 5080 no longer sold to tourists in Japan due to resellers
The situation with the availability of video cards NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 Series remains tense: top models like RTX 5090 и RTX 5080 are either not available for sale or are sold at inflated prices. But in Japan they still appear on the shelves - and this is what they took advantage of tourist scalpers, buying up cards en masse for resale abroad.
The response from Japanese retailers was not long in coming: now Foreigners are prohibited from buying RTX 5090 and RTX 5080. Signs are posted right in the stores saying: “These models are not sold outside Japan.” Moreover, at the checkout, customers are asked to confirm place of residence in Japanto weed out tourists.
This measure may seem harsh, but it is aimed at protecting real consumers. While global demand for the RTX 50 series continues to grow, especially in China, resellers are buying up the cards all over the world, leaving no chance for ordinary gamers. Japanese stores have decided to fight this directly.
