Black Screen Issues on RTX 5060 and 5060 Ti — NVIDIA Releases UEFI Firmware Update

Immediately after release GeForce RTX 5060 graphics cards Users began to report en masse problems with black or blank screen when turning on the PC. Both standard RTX 5060 and 5060 Ti versions are affected, including models from major vendors. NVIDIA has already released a new version of the firmware - UEFI Firmware Update Tool v2.0, which the company says can help, but works only if the black screen appears after rebooting.

Nv50

The situation is more complicated than expected. Some RTX 5060 Ti owners are experiencing a black screen immediately after installing the card - even BIOS won't boot, and the OS can only be loaded in safe mode. Often GPU does not work with the installed driver. Because of this some users cannot use their video card at all, especially when using UEFI boot.

NVIDIA has confirmed the issue and released a list of recommendations, which must be taken into account before applying the firmware update:

  • Completely power off the PC before turning it on.

  • Use the latest version of the motherboard BIOS

  • Must be included UEFI Boot Mode and disable Legacy/CSM

  • If available, boot via the second video card or integrated video

  • Wait for the OS to load with the driver installed GPU

However, if the system does not support booting in UEFI mode, the company advises contact the video card manufacturer's support to obtain the firmware version for Legacy VBIOS.

Unfortunately, this update does not solve the problem globally. If the black screen appears before the first boot, the firmware cannot be installed. Many cases require crash dumps to be sent directly to NVIDIA, and some cards may require warranty returns. The problem is growing, and the situation is reminiscent of cases with early releases of other RTX 50-series cards.
