12VHPWR issues affect not only RTX 5090, but also RTX 5080
Owners RTX 5080 started reporting about overheating and melting of the 12VHPWR connector, which was previously thought RTX 5090 problem. One of the users encountered the fact that when using ROG Loki и ASUS RTX 5080 during work the red indicator on the video card lit up, indicating nutritional problems.
After turning off and reconnecting the cable the monitor has lost resolution and has reduced refresh rate, and the video card itself went into PCIe x3 mode. However, the most disturbing discovery was made after a second examination of the system: the cable connector on the ROG Loki power supply side has melted, while the connector on the video card remained untouched.
Problems with 12VHPWR connector have been stalking users since the release RTX 5000 series, but before this, cases of cable melting concerned mostly RTX 5090. It is now becoming clear that Even the RTX 5080 is at risk.
It is not yet clear whether this is problem with the power supply itself, cable quality or design features of the RTX 5080, but users are advised carefully check the connector fit and avoid excessive bending of the cable. There have been no official comments from ASUS or NVIDIA yet.
