NVIDIA Plans to Discontinue GeForce RTX 4090 and RTX 4090D in October, Shortages Expected Ahead of RTX 5090 Launch

NVIDIA is preparing to end production of its flagship GeForce RTX 4090 and RTX 4090D graphics cards, according to leaks from Chinese forums. The cards, which have dominated the market for nearly two years, will be phased out as early as October 2024. The shortage of these cards is expected to drive up prices by November, as demand remains high despite their high cost.

The new GeForce RTX 5090 and 5090D series are set to replace the 4090 series, with the RTX 5090 aimed at the global market and the 5090D aimed at China. The new products are said to feature impressive specs, including a new type of GDDR7 memory and power consumption of up to 600 watts.

Previously, the RTX 4090 was one of the most powerful solutions on the market, offering a significant performance boost over other RTX 40-series cards. With the launch of the RTX 5090, NVIDIA is expected to once again take the lead in the premium graphics card segment, despite the lack of competition from AMD and Intel in this class.
