NVIDIA is preparing a cut-down version of the H20 for China - release expected in July

Amid tough US restrictions, the company NVIDIA intends to maintain a presence in the Chinese AI solutions market by preparing a new version of the accelerator H20 with reduced characteristics. According to Reuters, the release could take place as early as July 2025 years, and this will be the third attempt to adapt the flagship chip to export standards.

According to preliminary data, new modification H20 will be significantly reduced, primarily due to a reduction in memory capacity and a simplified modular architecture. This approach will allow the limits set by the US Department of Commerce to be met. Although the exact parameters have not yet been disclosed, sources indicate a noticeable decrease in performance relative to the global version of the accelerator.

It is noteworthy that in addition to the cut-down H20, the company also plans Blackwell Solution for China, which underlines the strategic importance of the region for NVIDIA. Despite Washington's restrictive course, the company's management, headed by Jensen Huang, continues to actively develop partnerships with Chinese AI corporations. Let us recall that last year, the head of NVIDIA personally visited China immediately after the ban on the export of the original H20 was introduced.

Competition heats up: Huawei actively promotes its own chip Ascend 910C, which sources say provides greater flexibility and security for local developers. In such a competitive environment, NVIDIA must offer the Chinese market not only the appropriate level of performance, but also prove its long-term interest in cooperation
