NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition: Compact cooling and new design

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition graphics cards will receive a more compact cooling system compared to RTX 4090 Founders Edition: New information from insider Kopite7kimi indicates that the GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition will feature a dual-slot, dual-fan cooling solution, making it more compact.

Existing models RTX 4090 and the RTX 4080 Founders Edition use a three-slot design with dual axial ventilation. The new RTX 5090 is planned with a dual-slot design, but it is unclear whether it will use the same ventilation system as the RTX 4090, or NVIDIA will use a front-facing design.

The move to a dual-slot design involves significant changes to the cooling system, allowing for over 400W of heat dissipation in a smaller chassis. Perhaps the new Blackwell chips have high performance with low heat dissipation. NVIDIA is testing several cooling systems for the next generation of cards, and the final design of the Founders Edition is not yet known. It is expected that NVIDIA will retain the black design introduced in the "SUPER" FE models.

Additionally, the RTX 5090 features a new PCB design that is split into three parts: a main PCB for GPU, VRAM and VRM, power board with 12V-2x6 connectors and interface board with Gen 5.0 x16 support.

The RTX 5090 will be equipped with a top-end GB202 "Blackwell" chip with a 512-bit interface and support for GDDR7 memory, offering up to 32 GB of memory with modules operating at speeds from 28 Gbps. NVIDIA is expected to introduce the "RTX 50" line of graphics cards in Q4 2024, starting with the RTX 5080 and then the RTX 5090.
