JEDEC is preparing the UFS 5.0 standard – a next-generation flash storage for AI, mobile devices, and consoles.

Association JEDEC, which develops international standards for microelectronics, announced the completion of work on a new generation built-in UFS 5.0 flash storageThe new standard aims to ensure high performance and energy efficiency in mobile devices, artificial intelligence systems, wearable electronics, automotive computers, and game consoles.

UFS 5.0

UFS 5.0 will retain backward compatibility with current UFS 4.x-based solutions, but will offer a significant increase in speed and stability. Key new features include: increased throughput up to 10.8 GB/s, built-in signal equalization system for reliable data transmission, separate power line to isolate the controller and memory subsystem, as well as support Inline Hashing to increase the level of security.

The development was carried out in collaboration with MIPI Alliance, whose M-PHY 6.0 interface will become the basis for UFS 5.0. Thanks to the new transfer mode HS-G6, the standard will provide throughput up to 46.6 Gbps per line, which is critical for running AI algorithms and intensive multimedia applications.

UFS has already become an important part of the mobile device ecosystem, thanks to low power consumption and high performanceWith the release of version 5.0, it could take a key place in the next generation of smartphones, laptops, and gaming devices. JEDEC continues testing and final adjustments, with a full specification release in the coming months.
