Arm Opens Access to Its ASR Mobile Upscaler — Unity and Unreal Will Get Plugins Before the End of the Year
At the conference, GDC 2025 Arm announced a full openness of ASR (Accuracy Super Resolution) technology for game developers. Ready-made versions will be released by the end of the year. Plugins for Unity and Unreal Engine, which will simplify the implementation of upscaling in mobile games and improve performance on ARM chips.
ASR is based on the architecture FidelityFX Super Resolution 2 from AMD and is aimed at Android devices. On the chip Immortalis-G720 with a 2-fold increase in resolution, the technology ensured FPS increase by 53% и energy savings up to 20% when installing a quality preset. Unlike Qualcomm solutions, Arm offers open source, which allows developers to flexibly adapt the upscaler to a specific game or engine.
Arm showed ASR in action Unreal Engine 5 at the “Mori” demonstration, where performance increased by 30% without losing visual quality. Support covers almost all modern mobile SoCs: Snapdragon, Dimensity, Exynos, Tensor and even Apple A/M series. Moreover, the technology can be used not only in smartphones, but also in laptops with ARM chips like Snapdragon.
In addition to Unreal and Unity, ASR can be integrated into other game engines, but this will require manual adaptation. Arm positions ASR as a mobile analogue of DLSS and FSR, which makes high frame rate available on mobile platforms without sacrificing quality. Potential first games with ASR could be Genshin Impact, Wuthering Waves and Fortnite.
