AMD RX 8600 and RX 8800 to Get FP8 Support: Leak Confirms Navi 4X
AMD is gearing up for the launch of new Radeon RX 8000 series graphics cards, and leaks confirm the arrival of the RX 8600 and RX 8800 models. A ROCm driver update has revealed references to the gfx12 architecture, which corresponds to Navi 4X. The code also revealed information about FP8 support for these models, making them even more attractive to users working in AI and high-performance computing.
According to the code, the RX 8600 and RX 8800 are based on the Navi 48 and Navi 47 architectures, respectively. They will provide improved support for computing and graphics operations thanks to the integration of FP8 technology, which allows for faster processing of data in tasks that require high precision and performance. In addition, compatibility with GFX12 has been improved for new graphics capabilities.
FP8 (Floating Point 8-bit) is a floating point number format used to speed up high-performance computing. This format is widely used in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and other computing processes that require high data processing speed without excessive precision. FP8 uses only 8 bits, which allows for a significant increase in performance by reducing the amount of data for calculations.
There is no official confirmation from AMD yet, but the appearance of these lines in the ROCm drivers indicates that a release is in the works. According to rumors, AMD plans to focus on the mid-range segment, providing solutions with competitive prices and improved performance compared to previous generations.
The Radeon RX 8600 and RX 8800 are expected to launch in 2025. AMD may reveal more details at CES 2025, where it will also unveil its RDNA 4 lineup.
