AMD is ending driver support for Polaris and Vega graphics cards

Gamers who rely on AMD's RX Vega and RX 500-series graphics cards are in an uncertain situation when it comes to AMD's driver support. In September, these cards were moved from the main driver branch to a separate package in the driver release for Windows. Despite subsequent updates to the main branch, the drivers for Polaris and Vega remain unchanged.

The end of support for Vega and Polaris architectures in the AMDVLK open source Linux driver has been officially confirmed by the AMD team GPU Open in the changelog for the Q8 release. This announcement means that the GFX9 and GFXXNUMX architectures, which span Vega and Polaris, will no longer be officially supported. It should be noted that enthusiasts can still turn to the community supporting the Mesa RADV drivers and AMD coresGPU, designed for these architectures, as reported by Phoronix.

While AMD has yet to explicitly announce the end of support for Windows For these graphics cards, the lack of updates for over a month creates uncertainty about the future. As a result, users of these graphics cards may experience game optimization issues and compatibility with new software in future driver releases.
