AMD Preparing Ryzen 7 9700F — 8-Core Zen 5 Without Graphics
AMD is preparing to release a new Ryzen 7 9700F processor, the first model of the Ryzen 9000 series with the index "F", intended for users who do not need an integrated graphics core. This is an 8-core, 16-thread chip on the Zen 5 architecture, support for which has already appeared in the AGESA 1.2.0.3e BIOS on boards with the AM5 socket.
Unlike the standard Ryzen 7 9700X, the new 9700F will have i disabledGPU, and probably slightly reduced frequencies. However, the processor retains overclocking support, has 32 MB of L3 and 8 MB of L2 cache, and fits into a 65 W thermal package. The lack of graphics will allow AMD to reduce the price of the chip to $249-299, making it a particularly attractive option for gaming PC builders with a discrete graphics card.
Ryzen 7 9700F will become a competitor not only within the Zen 5 line, but also for alternative solutions from Intel in the mid-price segment. The processor is expected to go on sale in the coming weeks. BIOS update AGESA 1.2.0.3e adds support for this particular model, and motherboard manufacturers, including ASUS, have already released corresponding firmware for the X870E.
The processor's main audience will be gamers and enthusiasts who want to save money on integrated graphics., without losing access to the full performance of Zen 5. At the same time, the new generation architecture provides a significant increase in IPC compared to Zen 4.
