Nintendo Switch 2 M.2 NVMe SSD Adapter in Development
The modding community is actively working on the project SDEX2M2 Adapter, which will allow you to connect standard M.2 NVMe SSD drives to the console Nintendo Switch 2. This is made possible by the fact that the MicroSD Express port in the new console supports the SD Express 7.1 standard, which provides a full PCIe Gen3 x1 interface and uses the NVMe protocol. The project is open source.
The main advantage of this solution is that significant savings on memory expansion. With speeds up to 1GB/s similar to the new MicroSD Express cards, M.2 SSDs offer significantly more capacity for the same price. For example, a 1TB M.2 2230 NVMe SSD can be found for $66.
The developers warn that the project is in the finalization stage. It is important to use only Low Voltage, Low Power M.2 2230 NVMe Drivesto avoid damaging the console. Also, the adapter is not intended for use with the original Nintendo Switch or other devices that have a regular MicroSD slot.
