NVIDIA is preparing a radical cooling upgrade for the upcoming Rubin lineup.

Company NVIDIA plans to implement new cooling system for the future line Ruby Ultra AIto cope with increasing demands on energy consumption and temperature control. This is about microchannel cold plates (MCCP)which will allow us to achieve optimal performance per watt ratio.

MCCP technology works on the principle direct crystal cooling, similar to the solutions of overclocking enthusiasts using direct-die for processors. copper plate are being created thin channelsthrough which the refrigerant circulates, providing local convection and reduction thermal resistance between the crystal and the liquid. This approach is more efficient than standard water blocks and is especially relevant for server systems under extreme loads.

It was previously assumed that MCCPs would appear in the basic GPU Rubin (TDP up to 2,3 kW), but difficulties with mass production slowed down the transition. According to @QQ_Timmy, NVIDIA is now focusing on Ruby Ultra, preparing for launch in 2027 year, and entrusted the development of MCCP to the company Asia Vital Components (AVC)... Interesting that Microsoft is also promoting microfluidic cooling., oriented towards the placement of the refrigerant inside or behind the silicon itself, making MCCP a logical stepping stone to future technologies.

Given the transition from Blackwell to Rubin, each new architecture requires increasingly sophisticated heat dissipation solutions. In such conditions liquid cooling industry not only does it not lose its relevance, but it also moves on a completely new technological level.
