Company Intel officially introduces support for the technology Content Adaptive Sharpening Filter (CASF) in the upcoming kernel version Linux 6.19, which is expected in February 2026. CASF was introduced as part of the graphics subsystem of processors Intel Lunar Lake, launched in September 2024. However, the Linux implementation remained unfinished until now. CASF not only improves content-aware image clarity, but also brings to Linux new DRM property sharpness, which will allow unifying sharpness control and using it in other kernel graphics drivers.

For full functionality, you will need not only an updated kernel driver, but also support at the user interface level. KDE Plasma 6.6 now includes CASF support via KWin, and in GNOME Mutter A similar patch is being prepared and is expected to be included in the release. GNOME 50, scheduled for release with Ubuntu 26.04 LTS.

In addition to CASF, Intel includes other improvements in the Linux 6.19 kernel: support Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), activation Xe3P LT PHY, framebuffer compression (FBC) for Xe3P_LPD, as well as bug fixes and code optimization. After support ends Panther Lake, Intel engineers are now focusing on graphics integration New Lake и Crescent Island in Linux drivers.
