ASUS Changes PCIe Interface Design on New Motherboards
Company ASUS changed without official announcement PCIe interface design on their new motherboards. An updated version of the mechanism Q-Release Slim, intended for to make it easier to remove video cards, turned out to be problematic. Users encountered the fact that the lack of a dedicated locking button makes the dismantling process difficult, and when removing the card, it the connector may get scratched.
Although these scratches do not affect on the performance of the cards, they can reduce their market value. This is especially unpleasant in the case of flagship models, such as RTX 5090 и RTX 4090, which cost thousands of dollars.
The first confirmation of the modification came from ASUS China, but the changes have already been noticed on motherboard ASUS ROG APEX X870E. In this version metal element removed between the power and data contacts, which caused the damage. This mechanism is used on many premium Intel and AMD 800 series, but ASUS has not made an official announcement of the redesign.
