15 months with MSI OLED monitor: first signs of burn-in

Monitors Unboxed has published an updated report about the performance of the MSI MPG 321URX OLED monitor after 15 months of intensive use. The test simulated the behavior of a regular user who does not take special measures to protect against burnout: 8 hours a day, 7 days a week, Windows in a light theme, no screensavers or static applications in fixed areas of the screen.

3800 hour test

Despite the extreme conditions of use, the overall condition of the panel remains acceptable. The main burn-in is observed at the bottom of the screen (in the area of the taskbar) and vertically, where the user constantly placed the browser and text editor. Filtered images help reveal burnout that is invisible to the naked eye, especially when watching YouTube videos where compression hides subtle changes.

Noticeable deviations were also recorded in the color balance - the green subpixel degraded the most. According to the author's estimate, the monitor in its current mode can be used for professional color correction for a maximum of 9 more months. The total service life under such loads is about 2–3 years.

It is important to take into account that testing is carried out on a single instance, unlike large comparative projects. However, Monitors Unboxed will continue to post updates as the OLED panel wears out further.
