Oblivion Remastered supports mods from the original

Yesterday Bethesda suddenly released The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered - updated version legendary RPG 2006, built on Unreal Engine 5. The game was released immediately after the announcement on PC and next-gen consoles. Among the innovations is a redesigned graphics, animations and support for modern resolutions. However, the developers announced in advance that modifications are not supported — allegedly for technical reasons.

However, within a few hours of the release, players began experimenting with the game files. Reddit user Zealousideal_Pen9063 reported that opened the remaster in TES Construction Set — the official editor of 2006. Moreover, everything works correctly: objects, scripts and scenes are loaded without errors. As proof, he posted screenshots of the AbandonedMine location, opened in the editor with a full preview.

It came as a surprise to the community: despite the new engine, Bethesda preserved the data architecture, identical to the original. Presumably, Unreal Engine 5 here it works only as a visual layer, and the internal logic of the game remains the same. This makes it possible to use old modding tools without additional adaptations.

The forums have already started discussing the first modifications: lighting, weather, new quests and even potential VR support. The first Russifiers have also appeared, as well as utilities to improve performance. Despite the official restrictions, Oblivion modding scene is already alive — and everything “just works.”
