DOOM: The Dark Ages Won't Run on Graphics Cards Without RT Hardware Support

DOOM: The Dark Ages will be one of first gamesWhere ray tracing is a must to launch - without video cards with RT-blocks (RTX or RX 6000+) the game simply will not start. According to the final system requirements, the minimum video card will be RTX 2060 SUPER or AMD RX 6600, even for 1080p on low settings.

For comfortable gaming at 1440p/60 FPS on high settings, the developers recommend RTX 3080 or RX 6800, 32 GB of RAM and a modern 8-core processor. Also required is an NVMe SSD and 100 GB of free space. This is already the second project on the engine id Tech 8after Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (released in December 2024), where Ray Tracing is built into the core rendering engine and cannot be turned off.

But it doesn't end there: The game will receive an update with full support in the future Path Tracing (patch tracing) — the most resource-intensive form of global illumination. The developers confirmed that this mode will be added after the release, and with its inclusion, system requirements will increase many times over. Players should prepare for hellish workloads in advance, especially if you plan to play in 4K or with maximum effects.
