DOOM: The Dark Ages Will Be Released With Denuvo Protection

On page DOOM: The Dark Ages Steam confirmed availability Denuvo Anti-Tamper — controversial DRM protection, which slows down hacking, but often causes complaints about performance and stability. Players noticed that the "third-party software requirements" column now indicates Denuvo protection, and this is official information 9 days before the release.

This isn't the first time Denuvo has been used in DOOM — protection was present in DOOM (2016) and at the launch of DOOM Eternal, although it was later removed. However, the latest major titles from Xbox Game Studios — Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Avowed and others - did not use any DRM on PC, which attracted the attention of pirates. In particular, users got access to Deluxe versions with an early launch 72 hours before the official release, and the games quickly ended up on torrent trackers.

Now Bethesda has clearly decided not to repeat that mistake. В DOOM: The Dark Ages There is also a Premium edition with early access on May 13, and it is probably because of this that the developers decided to protect the build. Although there has been no official comment from Bethesda or Microsoft, players are already actively discussing the situation - some perceive this as a necessary measure, and some as an unnecessary restriction.

The game will require a modern PC with RTX 2060 SUPER or RX 6600 and SSD — without ray tracing support, launch is impossible. And later, full patch tracing will be added to the project, which will further increase the load on the system. The combination of technical limitations and Denuvo protection makes DOOM: The Dark Ages one of the most demanding Bethesda games on PC.

The release will take place on May 15 on PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, also in Game Pass.
