The Witcher remake is being developed in parallel with the fourth part - both games are being created on Unreal Engine 5
CD Projekt RED has officially confirmed, that work on a remake The first part of The Witcher continues, and is being conducted in parallel with the development of The Witcher 4. The information appeared in the studio's latest financial report and was supplemented by the CEO's words Michala Nowakowski, which revealed some details of the technical integration of the projects.
According to Nowakowski, some of the team working on the remake is temporarily helping out with the development The Witcher 4 (formerly known as Project Polaris) to create a common technical basis and a unified set of tools. This approach should speed up and optimize further production of the updated version of the original 2007 game. The main work on the remake is carried out by the Fool's Theory studio, with the support and supervision of CDPR.
Both games are built on the engine Unreal Engine 5, which the studio is reworking to suit the needs of an open world and role-playing mechanics. This means that even the classic plot will be rethought with modern technology and quality. CDPR emphasizes that The Witcher 4 is already in full production, and it involves over 400 developers. The remake will be released later than the fourth part, as resources are now focused on the new flagship of the series.
