The main complaints concern input lag — Input lag is noticeable not only online but also offline, including even menu navigation. The PS5 recorded the worst lag—about 108 ms, while on PC it's 22 ms, on Xbox it's 51 ms, and on Switch it's 73 ms. The developers recommend using wired controllers, but the issue remains a concern for many players.

The online mode has also been criticized for limited matchmaking system — only quick play is available, without the ability to choose an opponent or customize match settings. This has been compounded by complaints about weak network code, the lack of music in the Sega 32X version of MKII, as well as the low quality cut scenes in the finals.

The developers have already released Hot update on Steam, which fixed audio in some ports and improved stability. However, this patch is only for PC—console versions, matchmaking, and Switch bugs are still pending. Digital Eclipse stated that they are working on fixes and will share details later.

Despite technical difficulties, fans celebrated the return of a rare WaveNet versions of UMK3, which hasn't been reissued since 1997. Given the studio's reputation, users are hopeful that the project will be brought to a stable state.
