Death Stranding Director's Cut Surprise Appearance on Xbox Series X|S After Kojima Productions Rights Buyout
Today at Microsoft Store Death Stranding Director's Cut has suddenly appeared on Xbox Series X|S. This came as a surprise to gamers, as the game was previously a PlayStation console exclusive. Hideo Kojima reportedly bought the IP rights from Sony, allowing Kojima Productions to release the game on Microsoft's console and Amazon's online service. The publisher is 505 Games, which previously collaborated with the developers on the PC version.
The Xbox version supports Play Anywhere, allowing Xbox Series X|S and PC owners to play the same version at no additional cost via Microsoft Store.
Death Stranding debuted on PlayStation 4 in 2019, and was later published by 505 Games on PC and received an enhanced version for PlayStation 5. The game is now available for Xbox users, but is not yet included in the Game Pass subscription, although it was previously included in PC Game Pass.
Kojima Productions plans to release a sequel to Death Stranding in 2025, but for now it has been announced exclusively for PlayStation 5 under Sony's publishing house. There is no information yet about a possible release on other platforms.
