Warhammer 40,000: Space Marines 2 — is the long-awaited sequel to the legendary action shooter, developed by Saber Interactive and published by Focus Entertainment. The original game, released in 2011, won the hearts of many gamers thanks to its brutal action, atmospheric world and exciting story. However, more than ten years have passed since the release of the first part, and the expectations of players have increased significantly. This circumstance became an important motivation for the developers to create a sequel that would not only preserve the spirit of the original, but also take the franchise to a new level.
Work on Space Marine 2 started with the idea of preserving the unique combat atmosphere of the original, but at the same time expanding the universe and introducing new elements. The main goal was to improve all aspects of the game: from gameplay mechanics to narrative and graphics. The team set itself the goal of creating a game that would convey the feeling of the power of a space marine, and at the same time offer players larger-scale battles than ever before. That is why significant attention was paid to new technologies and the game engine, which had to withstand enormous loads when displaying mass battles.
One of the key moments of the development was the return of the protagonist of the first part - Ultramarine Captain Titus, who in the sequel leads his team in the fight against the Tyrannids. Returning as a lieutenant, Titus continues his mission to protect the Imperium from the enemies of humanity. The story of the game focuses on epic battles against the ruthless Tyrannids - one of the most feared and destructive alien races in the universe. The key innovation was the introduction of a three-player co-op mode, which allows you to play the campaign or complete special missions with your friends. One of the key features of the graphics is the realistic lighting simulation. Encounters with large hordes of enemies lead to the destruction of the environment, be it buildings, bridges or other structures. The visual effects of destruction look impressive, creating a feeling of all-out war, where every blow of the space marine leaves a mark on the game world.

Game engine Swarm Engine — is one of the main technological innovations used in Space Marine 2. It has been specially adapted to handle massive battles involving hundreds of enemies while maintaining stable performance. The engine is capable of tracking and processing the behavior of the Tyrannids in real time, which allows for scenes where several hundred enemies can be present on the battlefield at the same time. This makes battles truly epic and chaotic, while maintaining high dynamics and tension.
Additionally, Swarm Engine supports modern graphics technologies such as ray tracing and image upscaling technologies, including DLSS и FSR. This allows players to enjoy smooth gameplay at high graphics settings even on less powerful systems. Ray tracing is used to create more realistic shadows and reflections, adding depth and realism to every frame. Weapons, space marine armor, and the environment appear especially detailed as light dynamically changes and bounces off the surface of objects.
One of the key features of the engine is the ability to scale battles.
