Survarium Beta - PC performance graphics benchmarks of Graphics Cards

 survarium 2014 04 01 17 54 50 567

Name: Survarium
Genre: Online FPS, MMO first-person shooter, Free-to-play
Release date: 4th quarter 2013
Game engine: Vostok Engine

Survarium is a massively multiplayer online game in the genre of first-person shooter with role-playing elements, distributed according to the free-to-play business model. It is being developed by the Ukrainian company Vostok Games, originally from the former company GSC Game World who worked on STALKER 2. The development of the game was announced on April 25, 2012, the game is scheduled to enter the open beta testing stage in the second quarter of 2014.

The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic world in which an environmental disaster has occurred. According to the first statements of the developers, the player’s opponents will be other players, mutants and the world of Survarium itself in the form of cataclysms and anomalies. In addition, Survarium will not have a coherent world in which you can freely roam, but instead the gameplay is designed for session play within a limited framework.

According to the assurances of the developers who previously worked on the game STALKER 2, they intend to use in Survarium a number of ideas originally invented for STALKER 2, however, no practical developments from GSC Game World are used in Survarium; the game is being created from scratch. According to Vostok Games PR Director Oleg Yavorsky, Survarium represents the idea of STALKER, which has entered a new evolutionary stage. Also, according to the developers, it is planned to add role-playing game elements to the game.

This subsection of our review highlights the main graphical aspects of this game. Particular attention is paid to the version of the graphics engine used, the version of the API used, graphic settings and the quality of development of the main visual aspects.

Supported OS and graphics API

Survarium Beta is supported by major Windows operating systems, which include Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8. Other operating systems are unlikely to be supported by the game.

The priority and main graphics API for the game is DirectX 11.

Game engine

The Survarium game is based on the Vostok Engine game engine, which implements the use of two types of lighting (direct and indirect). The first type of lighting is represented by fully dynamic light from the sun which can and will cast shadows on absolutely all objects from all objects, incl. moving. This method is used by almost all modern games, for example games built on the CryEngine 3 engine, Deus Ex 3, GTA 4.

 Vostok Engine

However, crude direct ray tracing in the absence of direct light gives a false picture. For example, in the corner of a room where there is no direct rays of the sun, it will be very dark, despite the fact that the light from the window is shining on the wall opposite. Such a room should not be dark. And it won't! The second type of lighting Survarium Engine allows you to process this type of lighting and make adjustments. In fact, in the complete absence of direct sun, the character, as he approaches a bright place and exits the darkness, also becomes lighter.

Even more surprising is the mention of BRDF shading (Bidirectional reflectance distribution function). BRDF, i.e. two-beam reflectance function, describes the physical behavior of light reflections at different angles. This effect takes place in the real world and is undeservedly ignored by game makers due to its complexity. So far, the only game that has briefly mentioned the use of BRDF shading is Battlefield 3.

Nevertheless, progress is moving and BRDF is getting to games. The fact is that in reality, the ability of light to be reflected very much depends on the angle of incidence and, fundamentally, on the type of material. Metals, dielectrics and semiconductors fundamentally reflect light differently, especially at sharp angles, giving rise to complex optical effects. This is especially true at sharp angles of light incidence and at the edges of objects. It is precisely because of the ignoring of BRDF in games, even with the most complex textures, that metal looks more like plastic, and people's faces look waxy and do not seem alive. So far, the developers have gotten away with demonstrating a Kalashnikov assault rifle, which looks good in dynamics. But the quality of the picture does not allow us to fully appreciate this and I would like to see a larger set of materials.

Advanced Game Settings

Survarium Beta is PC exclusive and has a wide range of basic and advanced settings. We can change the graphics quality from very low to ultra high, depending on the performance of your system.

General visual design and game physics

Survarium is currently at the stage of closed testing and it is still very early to talk confidently about the graphical component of the game. At the moment, we do not have access to an open game world that we could explore; instead, the developers offer to take part in online battles based on team battles.

There is practically no physics in the game as such at the moment, so the world around you is practically indifferent to your actions. Let's not make hasty conclusions and return to Survarium when the game acquires more advanced modes.

As for the AMD FX-6xxx processors, I think it’s worth giving results only on the AMD FX-6350, because the AMD FX-6300, 6100 and 6350 are essentially 1 CPU, and whoever gets their hands off their shoulders immediately raises the frequencies to 6350, or right away buy - the difference is a pittance.

Visually it looks better than Stalker, but so far worse than Metro!!!
Well, I didn’t notice much of a difference, but take into account the time difference...
