Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad (Red Chapel 2: Heroes of Stalingrad) is a computer game in the tactical shooter genre with a first-person view, developed by the American company Tripwire Interactive, continuing the ideas of Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45. The game was published by the Russian company 1C.

Review: Playability
Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad is dedicated to the Battle of Stalingrad, one of the most important events of the Great Patriotic War. The project is focused primarily on online mode, but it also features a single-player campaign in which players will be able to fight on the side of the USSR or the Third Reich. But, as befits the sympathy of American developers, we started our company on the side of the Nazis...
As in the first part, ballistics is actively implemented in the game. The trajectory of the bullets will now have to be clearly traced. Also added is the ability to adjust the weapon sight, setting the desired range (for example, PPSh has positions of 100 and 200 meters, and rifles and machine guns have positions from 50-100 to 1000 meters or more). For the first time in the series, the player is given the opportunity to use the cover system - now we can shoot back, not Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad is dedicated to the Battle of Stalingrad, one of the most important events of the Great Patriotic War. For the first time in the series, raising his head above the front line. The effectiveness of this is zero, but sometimes it is very useful... Unlike other realistic tactical shooters, in Red Orchestra 2 fighters do not die instantly from 1-2 hits. Even after being mortally wounded, a soldier dies only after 5-10 seconds, and during this time some actions are possible. A single hit from a bullet is not always fatal (especially from a pistol) and will usually cause bleeding (which the player must fix by bandaging the wound) or a non-fatal wound (if hit from a submachine gun or pistol).
A separate role in the game is given to the command of a squad in the person of your player - you will need to evaluate not only your actions, but also your entire squad. The game also actively uses control of tank guns and, according to many users, this function is recreated in the most realistic way.
We invite you to evaluate part of the game walkthrough of Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad in HD resolution, where you can see for yourself the quality of this product:
Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad is a good shooter on the theme of the Second World War, the main part of which is based on multiplayer. Due to the fact that there are very few games on the theme of the Second World War, this project is a real gift for fans of this genre.
Review: Graphics
Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad is based on an improved version of the Unreal Engine 3. And if it weren’t for its logo at the very beginning of the gameplay, then we could safely say that this graphic render is a product of development by Tripwire Interactive employees, it was so global and large-scale it's redesigned. The game has a bunch of graphic settings with a lot of combinations for implementation on various system configurations.
Unreal Engine 3 never lost its console disease, namely the frame limit of 62, even with vertical synchronization disabled. The game has a fairly well-developed detail of the surrounding world, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the gameplay, and the good implementation of physical effects makes it even more attractive. The only negative is the lagging development of the game characters, who act and move like puppets tied to strings.
We briefly reviewed the graphics part and in the future we will move directly to testing the graphics and processor dependence.
Review: Resource-intensive game
All video cards were tested at maximum graphics quality using MSI Afterburner. The purpose of the test is to determine how video cards from different manufacturers behave under the same conditions. The minimum and average frame size is taken as the performance indicator. Below is the configuration of our test systems.

Less powerful video cards up to the level of GeForce GTS 450 and Radeon HD 4870 are tested based on Core 2 Quad Q9550 and Phenom II X4 940 BE processors, depending on the resource intensity of the game, and more powerful ones are based on more powerful solutions. Overclocked versions of video cards presented by sponsors were equal to conventional analogues by reducing their clock speeds.
Our video cards were tested at 1280x1024 and 1920x1080 resolutions with the maximum graphics quality settings allowed by the game. AMD Eyefinity and NVIDIA 3D Vision were not included in the tests due to the lack of correct support at the moment. The efficiency of Cross Fire is zero, but SLI works without any problems.
Testing at maximum quality settings 1280x1024

At maximum settings and a resolution of 1280x1024, the Radeon HD 5770 or GeForce GTS 450 video cards will show acceptable performance. As we can see, Unreal Engine 3 showed quite an appetite for it, dropping many modern entry-level gaming cards to a threshold of less than 25 FPS.
Testing at maximum quality settings 1920x1080

The minimum that is needed for comfortable gaming at a resolution of 1920x1080 is a video card of the Radeon HD 4890 or GeForce GTX 275 level. A comfortable performance level above 25 FPS will be shown by the Radeon HD 6870 or GeForce GTX 460. If you are buying a video card specifically for this game, then today the most preferable ones are the Radeon HD 6870 or GeForce GTX 460.
CPU dependency testing
We tested the processor dependence on 10 models of basic configurations, which are the most relevant today. The test was conducted in those places where the video card is of minimal importance for the game and its load was less than 99%, this time at a resolution of 1920x1080 with maximum quality settings.
Testing at maximum quality settings 1920x1080

Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad is very sensitive to the resources of the central processor, loading the fastest of the dual-core models almost to full capacity and responding to greater smoothness of action when there are four core models in the system.

Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad is a bright game not dedicated to the Second World War, combining the realism of the battles taking place and the atmosphere of the Second World War. |

The graphics in the game were quite surprising. Unreal Engine 3 was almost unrecognizable right off the bat. The detail of the environment and the balanced abundance of graphic effects are especially pleasing to the eye. |

The optimization, like the graphics, surprised me, but this time not in the most pleasant way. The picture received on the monitor hardly meets the requirements presented for the personal computer subsystem. |
We would like to express our gratitude to all manufacturing companies that were able to provide test equipment for our tests. GPU and we hope that in the future their number will increase significantly!
