The main character of Metro Exodus: Sam's Story is soldier Sam - an American soldier who felt great both among the residents of the Moscow metro and on board the Aurora train. Ultimately, the hero tries to find a way back to the United States to see if his loved ones survived the war. His search takes him to Vladivostok, devastated by a massive tsunami, where his survival skills are put to the test.

GAME ENGINE |
4A Engine is a game engine developed by the Ukrainian company 4A Games for use in their computer game "Metro 2033", published by THQ on March 16, 2010. 4A Engine is an internal company engine and is not offered for licensing. The engine uses DirectX API versions 9, 10, 11 and 12, OpenGL versions 3.2 and 4, as well as Nvidia technologies: PhysX physics engine, Nvidia 3D Vision, Nvidia HairWorks and Nvidia RTX real-time ray tracing technology.
The engine was developed in Ukraine by a group of people who were fired (according to another version, they voluntarily left) from the GSC Game World company a year before the release of STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl. First of all, these are Oles Shishkovtsov and Alexander Maksimchuk, who worked as programmers on the development of the X-Ray engine used in the STALKER series of computer games. The engine was originally designed to run on personal computers, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. However, the PlayStation 2033 version of Metro 3 was not released.
Shishkovtsov and his colleagues left the company during the development of STALKER due to problems with the X-Ray engine. According to Oles, it did not support multi-threading, was equipped with a weak and unsatisfactory network model, poorly managed resources and memory, which generally did not allow the use of streaming data, and the overall level of its capabilities was not suitable for 'next-gen' consoles . Also, according to him, the engine had “terrible text scripting” (X-Ray was written in 2000), which led to delays in the original game.
The engine supports multi-threading in such a way that only PhysX has a dedicated thread, and uses a task model without any pre-state checking or pre/post synchronization, thereby allowing tasks to run in parallel. When performance was measured on the Xbox 360 during development, tasks were executed at a rate of "approximately 3000 tasks at 30 ms frames for Xbox 360 in scenes with heavy CPU load and all hardware threads loaded at 100%." Shishkovtsov also said that the architecture of the NV40 chip of the RSX graphics processor in the PlayStation 3 turned out to be very convenient for development, also noting that there were a lot of “empty loops.” The engine can use a deferred shader pipeline and tessellation for greater performance, and also supports HDR (full, including blue-shifted), real-time reflections, color correction, film grain and noise, and multi-core processing.
The Metro 2033 game demonstrated a pretty good implementation of volumetric fog, double precision in PhysX calculations, object blur, subsurface breaking for coverage shaders, parallax mapping for all surfaces and high geometric detail with not too resource-intensive LOD objects. Thanks to the use of PhysX, the engine received many features, for example, destructible environments, simulation of bends on clothing, waves on water and other elements that are completely influenced by the environment. The sound part of the engine has support for 3D positioning, creating the impression of space and the location of the sound source.

Our video cards were tested at different screen sizes of 1920x1080, 2560x1600 and 3840x2160 at maximum graphics quality settings in DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 (extreme) modes. For RTX series video cards, the mode was additionally tested RTX и DLSS. DLSS at a resolution of 1920x1080 on video cards RTX 2080 and higher it is not available, and at 3840x2160 it is not available on the RTX 2060 (the DLSS tests show the results without it - you can activate it, but in fact it is still not activated, and due to the incorrect display of graphs in module).

VIDEO MEMORY CONSUMPTION |
Testing of video memory consumed by the game was carried out by the program MSI Afterburner. The indicator was based on the results on video cards from AMD and NVIDIA with separate screen sizes 1920x1080 and 2560x1440 with different anti-aliasing settings. By default, the graph displays the most current solutions. Other video cards are added and removed from the chart at the request of the reader.

When using video cards AMD processors showed an acceptable indicator of at least 25 frames Ryzen 5 2400G or Core i 5 2500.

When using video cards NVIDIA processors showed an acceptable indicator of at least 25 frames Ryzen 3 1200 or Core i 3 4330, and an average FPS of at least 60 frames will be able to provide solutions at the level Core i7 8700K.

The test was carried out on the basic configuration of Core i 9 9900K with 32 GB DDR4 3200 MGz pre-installed memory. All used RAM was taken as an indicator. The RAM test on the entire system was carried out on various video cards without launching third-party applications (browsers, etc.). In the graphics, you can add and remove any resolutions and video cards as desired.
