Patch 1.2

The developers of Kingdom Come: Deliverance II have released a major update 1.2, which brings major changes to the graphics, lighting system, optimization, and NPC behavior. The patch eliminates numerous bugs, improves performance in large cities and battles, and adds support for modern rendering technologies.

Graphical improvements and optimizations

The developers paid special attention to image quality, which is especially noticeable in lighting, textures and drawing distance. In Kuttenberg and other large locations, lighting effects have been improved, shadows have been adjusted and problems with sharp changes in brightness have been fixed. The behavior of global illumination has been improved, which made the picture more natural at any time of day.

Important changes affected the textures and detailing of models. Now the characters look more realistic, problems with the display of hair and clothes have been fixed. Metal and skin materials have been improved, and character movement animations have been reworked, making their behavior in battle and everyday life more believable.

Performance has increased significantly due to optimized use of video card resources. In battles and densely populated areas, the load has been reduced by reducing the number of active light sources and a revised texture loading mechanism. This is especially noticeable when moving between locations and in dynamic scenes.

Improvements to the combat system

The developers have made a number of changes to the combat mechanics. Now combo attacks deal more damage, making the fights more dynamic. Problems with the animations of rolls and blocks have been fixed, and smooth transitions between different types of attacks have been added.

Special attention has been paid to long-range weapons. Now the process of drawing a bowstring or loading a crossbow is not reset when receiving a hit, which makes shooting more predictable. Shooting animations have been reworked, and aiming has become more convenient.

In addition, bugs with finishing blows have been fixed. They are now performed without visual artifacts, and the characters' movements during final attacks have become smoother.

NPC Behavior Updates

Significant changes affected the artificial intelligence of NPCs. Now citizens and guards react more realistically to the player's actions, remember his misdeeds and can report them. Bugs have been fixed due to which NPCs could attack the character without reason or not react to crimes.

The system of routine NPC actions has been optimized: merchants close their shops on time, blacksmiths work at the forge, and residents of large settlements behave more realistically. Interaction with animals has been improved, the death animations of cows and bulls have been corrected, and hares no longer freeze in motionlessness when meeting a dog.

The mechanics of crimes have also been reworked. Now if a player commits a theft, guards do not always notice him immediately, but can later identify him by his appearance. Improved crowd behavior in panic, fixed errors with murders, in which victims could continue to look at the attacker even after a fatal blow.

Support for modern rendering technologies

Patch 1.2 added support DLSS-4.0. Also fixed artifacts that occur when using the technology FSR3.1. Global illumination settings have been reworked to minimize image quality loss when lowering graphics settings.

The work has been further improved HDR, color tones have been adjusted and sharp contrast transitions have been eliminated. Now scenes with sunset and night lighting look more natural, and the use of torches or other light sources in the dark has become more realistic.

Update 1.2 has become one of the largest for Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. It significantly improves the graphics, makes lighting and shadows more realistic, fixes errors with character animation. New rendering technologies have also been added, which improve image quality on modern video cards.

QUALITY

Update 1.2 for Kingdom Come: Deliverance II brought not only improved graphics and optimization, but also support for modern upscaling technologies. The game now supports FSR3.1 from AMD and DLSS-4.0 from NVIDIA. Each of these technologies has its own impact on image quality and performance, but the best result is achieved with DLSS 4.0 in the "Transformer" mode, which uses advanced machine learning algorithms.

SMAA 2TX – basic antialiasing with a good balance

SMAA 2TX - this is an improved version SMAAwhich uses temporary methods for eliminating "ladders". In Kingdom Come: Deliverance II it shows decent image quality, but compared to upscaling DLSS and FSR has several disadvantages:

  • Blurry textures at long distances – there is no reconstruction of details, which reduces the clarity of distant objects.
  • Moderate smoothing – artifacts in the form of “ladders” are still present, especially on thin objects (tree branches, fences, weapons).
  • Moderate impact on performance – technology requires a small reserve of computing power, but does not provide an FPS boost like FSR and DLSS.

SMAA 2TX is best suited for those who do not have a video card with DLSS or FSR support, but who want to get an anti-aliased image without a significant decrease in FPS.

FSR 3.1 – noticeable performance gain, but loss of detail

FidelityFX Super Resolution 3.1 - updated version upscaling from AMD, which promises improved quality images and increased texture clarity. In Kingdom Come: Deliverance II FSR 3.1 shows itself well, but there are nuances:

  • Artifacts and blurry edges – FSR 3.1 still suffers from "soapiness" on moving objects and sometimes makes textures too smooth.
  • Noise and flickering - on the small details (grass, chains, NPC clothes) can be seen distortions.
  • Clarity is inferior to DLSS – due to the peculiarities of the FSR 3.1 algorithms, it does not reconstruct as well fine details and textures of the characters' skin.

FSR 3.1 is a good choice for owners of AMD graphics cards or budget NVIDIA cards, but the image quality is inferior to DLSS.

DLSS 4.0 – The Best Option for Maximum Quality

The most advanced upscaling technology DLSS-4.0 from NVIDIA provides better image clarity и significant increase in FPS. Especially in the mode "Transformer"which uses deep neural network algorithms for detailed reconstruction of frames.

Advantages DLSS-4.0 in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II:

  • Maximum image clarity – DLSS better than all restores textures and fine details, eliminating blurriness.
  • Great work with the movement – unlike FSR 3.1, DLSS 4.0 correctly reconstructs moving objects, without causing "noise" and flickering.
  • High detail hair, grass and foliage - especially noticeable on objects with transparency, where FSR 3.1 often crashes.

DLSS 4.0 – the best option for maximum quality in the game. When using the "Transformer" mode, you achieve the perfect balance between clarity, smoothness and performance.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II Conclusion Patch 1.2

Although patch 1.2 added improved technologies upscaling and raised graphics quality, the performance of video cards has deteriorated significantly. However, the fresh hotfix fixed these problems and restored stability.

Graphical improvements and performance fixes

The update brought support DLSS-4.0 и FSR3.1, what really increases clarity images. However, the game initially lost up to 50% FPS even on RTX 4000 series, and FSR 3.1 reduced texture detail.

After the release of emergency hotfix, situation has improved significantly:

  • Performance restored.
  • FSR 3.1 now works correctly - noise and artifacts are eliminated, and the image quality has become equal with DLSS 4.0.
  • Game stability has increased, especially on video cards AMD Radeon, which previously experienced memory management problems.

Additionally, the developers have fixed it problems loading levels и optimized NPC work, which had a positive effect on the smoothness of the game.

Is it worth upgrading?

Taking into account the corrections Update 1.2 is now completely safe for installation. If previously the owners RTX 4080 or RX 9070 it was not recommended to update, but now the game runs stably even on RTX 3080 and RX 6800 cards.

Final World: Now graphics improved and performance restored - can update safely and enjoy a new level of detail.
