We decided to conduct additional testing of Grand Theft Auto V in its most difficult mode, namely outside the city, where, as is known, the load on GPUs is greatest. We cited processor tests and video/RAM consumption from previous tests, since their indicators have not changed, but presented their past results in this review for a clearer picture of the game’s performance. In this article, we decided to compare the graphics quality on AMD and NVIDIA products with identical graphics settings. The picture on both manufacturers is almost the same, except that on NVIDIA the image is somewhat sharper.

All video cards were tested at maximum graphics quality using MSI Afterburner. The purpose of the test is to determine how video cards from different manufacturers behave under the same conditions. The average and minimum FPS were taken as performance indicators. Below is a video of the test segment:
Our video cards were tested at separate screen sizes of 1920x1080, 2560x1600 and 3840x2160 at the maximum graphics quality settings allowed by Grand Theft Auto V. The tests in this case were carried out at absolutely maximum graphics settings. In the first case, the game was tested with FXAA, and in the second with MSAA 2X. Multi-chip AMD configurations have some problems - they categorically refuse to run on this save, leading to the game itself crashing.

With these settings An acceptable FPS indicator was shown by video cards of the Radeon R9 270 or GeForce GTX 760 level. The optimal solutions would be Radeon HD 7970 or GTX 770.
Testing at maximum quality settings 1920x1080 MSAA 2X
With these settings An acceptable FPS indicator was shown by video cards of the Radeon HD 7950 or GeForce GTX 670 level. The optimal solutions would be the Radeon R9 290 or GeForce GTX TITAN. Two-gigabyte solutions periodically freeze at these settings.

With these settings An acceptable FPS indicator was shown by video cards of the Radeon HD 7970 or GeForce GTX 680 level. The optimal solutions would be the Radeon R9 290X or GeForce GTX 970. Two-gigabyte solutions periodically freeze.
Testing at maximum quality settings 2560x1600 MSAA 2X
With these settings An acceptable FPS indicator was shown by video cards of the Radeon R9 290 or GeForce GTX 690 level. The optimal solutions will be levels GeForce GTX TITAN X. It is worth noting that after 10-15 minutes of playing time on 2 GB models periodic long freezes and freezes begin. 3 GB solutions sometimes freeze a little.

With these settings An acceptable FPS indicator was shown by video cards of the GeForce GTX 980 level. The optimal solutions will be GeForce GTX TITAN X or GeForce GTX 980 SLI. It is worth noting that almost all solutions begin to freeze a little over the course of playing time (15-20 minutes or more), the smooth process is maintained only on TITAN X and TITAN (which, in principle, is not enough for a comfortable game).
Testing at maximum quality settings 3840x2160 MSAA 2X
With these settings acceptable FPS indicator was shown by video cards of the level GeForce GTX TITAN X. You will have to forget about a comfortable game with these settings...
Testing of video memory consumed by the game was carried out by the program MSI Afterburner. The indicator was based on results on top video cards from AMD and NVIDIA with separate screen sizes 1920x1080 and 2560x1600 with different anti-aliasing settings.

The recommended amount of video memory usage for a resolution of 1920x1080 will be 3076 MB of video memory, for a resolution of 2560x1600 - 4096 MB of video memory, and for a resolution of 3840x2160 about 6128 MB of video memory.

We tested processor dependence on 16 models of basic configurations that are relevant today. The test was carried out in those places where the video card value for the game is minimal and its load was less than 99%, this time at a resolution of 1920x1080 with maximum graphics quality settings. Grand Theft Auto V is capable of supporting up to 16 computing threads, but fully utilizes 8 processing cores.
RAM test |
The test was carried out on the basic configuration of Core i 7 5960X@4.6 GHz with 16GB DDR4 2400 MGz pre-installed memory. The entire used operational memory was taken as an indicator. The RAM test on the entire system was carried out on various test benches without launching third-party applications (browsers, etc.).

As we can see, with various quality settings, the amount of RAM consumed in Grand Theft Auto V is at the level of 2000-2500 megabytes.
Testing system RAM consumption
On a 6GB system, Grand Theft Auto V consumes about 4.9GB of RAM. In the presence of a system with 8 gigabytes, the RAM consumption of all RAM was 5 gigabytes. With a 16 GB system, the total memory consumption was almost 5.3 gigabytes. And with 32 gigabytes of RAM, the system consumes 6 gigabyte of RAM.
