Gothic 1 Remake — a long-awaited reissue of the cult role-playing game from Piranha Bytes, developed by Alkimia Interactive under the publishing house THQ Nordic. The original Gothic, released in 2001, became one of the most iconic RPGs of its time due to its deep mechanics, dark fantasy world and high degree of freedom.
Development of the remake began in 2019, when THQ Nordic experimented with releasing the Gothic Playable Teaser on Steam. This small prototype allowed the company to gauge player reaction to the idea of a complete remake of the first part of the series.
Following the positive response, Alkimia Interactive, a studio founded specifically to work on the project, began creating an updated version of the game. The developers decided to preserve the core mechanics of the original, but at the same time adapt them to modern standards, improving controls, combat system and interaction with the world.
One of the main goals was to preserve the atmosphere of the first Gothic, so that veterans of the series would feel nostalgia, and new players could get acquainted with the classics in a modern version.

Gothic 1 Remake is being developed on the engine Unreal Engine 5, which allows you to create a detailed and atmospheric world. The original design of the Colony has been reworked taking into account new technologies, but at the same time its recognizable structure has been preserved. The developers paid special attention to textures, lighting and character models, making them more realistic and detailed.
One of the key elements of the graphics is the Lumen global illumination system, which provides dynamic shadows and realistic light behavior. Thanks to this, caves, camps and forests acquire depth and saturation, which increases immersion in the game world. In addition, Nanite technology made it possible to create high-poly models without significantly affecting performance.
Characters and monsters have received completely updated models and animations. Particular attention has been paid to facial expressions and smooth movements, which makes interaction with NPCs more lively and believable. Enemies have become more diverse in behavior: for example, wolves now hunt in packs, and orcs adapt to the player's fighting style.

Using Unreal Engine 5 allowed the developers to significantly improve the physical model of the world. Now objects have greater interactivity, which is especially noticeable in the mechanics of destruction and interaction with the environment. For example, players will be able to destroy wooden bridges, break boxes and use elements of the environment in battle.
The combat system has been completely redesigned. In the original Gothic, combat controls took some getting used to, and many modern players consider them outdated. The remake features a more responsive and fluid system with the ability to dynamically dodge, counterattack, and combo attacks. However, the developers tried to preserve the spirit of the original, giving players the opportunity to upgrade their combat skills and gradually master the mechanics.
NPC artificial intelligence has been significantly improved. Now camp residents behave more naturally, react to the player's actions and can even engage in spontaneous dialogue. If the player shows aggression, NPCs remember his behavior and can react differently depending on their role and character.
The system of dialogues and interaction with factions has also been improved. Now, decision-making has a greater impact on the development of the plot, and completing quests can change the attitude of different factions towards the main character. This adds more variability to the game and makes the passage unique for each player.
Thanks to the use of new technologies Gothic 1 Remake promises to preserve the spirit of the original, while taking the game to a new level of graphics, animation and mechanics. The developers are actively listening to the community to achieve a balance between the classic RPG formula and modern industry standards.

The minimum
- Textures and models: simplified, lower resolution images are used; surface details (cracks in stone, texture of metal armor) are less visible.
- Lighting and Shadows: basic methods, without complex global illumination effects and volumetric shadows; the depth of the frame is not high.
