As we can see, the biggest difference is noticeable when moving from 2 to 3 gigabytes of video memory. With a larger amount of video memory, the texture quality is probably even higher, although this is hardly noticeable, but is clearly visible in tests.

General visual design and game physics

Gears of War Ultimate Edition, as in 2006, runs on the old Unreal Engine 3, only on a significantly improved version of it, which allowed the developers to use many additional special effects, a new lighting model and generally improve picture quality significantly. All video cards were tested at maximum graphics quality using MSI Afterburner. The purpose of the test is to determine how video cards from different manufacturers behave under the same conditions. Below is a video of the test segment:  

Our video cards were tested at different screen sizes of 1920x1080, 2560x1600 and 3840x2160 at the maximum graphics quality settings allowed by Gears of War Ultimate Edition. AMD CrossFireX and SLI are not supported by the game. For our inattentive readers who skip the review and go straight to the tests, we repeat - on 2 GB video cards the game does not allow maximum settings to be turned on, hence the FPS on them is higher.

As we can see, Gears of War Ultimate Edition has rather poor optimization, especially when it comes to working with video memory on 4 gigabytes video cards from AMD (the game’s automatic selection of texture sizes depending on the amount of video memory also plays a role in this).

The test was carried out on the basic configuration of Core i 7 5960X@4.6 GHz with 32 GB DDR4 2400 MGz pre-installed memory. The entire used operational memory was taken as an indicator. On a 6GB system, Gears of War Ultimate Edition consumes about 5.2GB of RAM. In the presence of a system with 8 gigabytes, the RAM consumption of all RAM was 5.6 gigabytes. the original HL2 (and we were talking about it) ran great on the 9600pro (like all games from 2004), the second episode played great on the 6600gt, I was never a fan of raising anti-aliasing to the maximum (and to this day, I play with 2- 4x) is enough for me, I’m not going to look for ladders with a magnifying glass. Was the 9800gt killed by HL2? You are confusing something! On the 8800GTS 640mb, I completed the first Crysis on ultra (yes, it was slow at times, but damn, what a picture!) and the divine 9600gt (it’s like 970 now) pulled everything! Except Crysis. I'm already silent about 9800... Am I such an optimist, or are you such a pessimist... =)

dzziki ati radeon x700pro that I wrote below is an analogue of the 6600gt, much more powerful than the 9600pro by a factor of 2. And I saw with my own eyes how HL2 goes, since I played the entire game on the x700 :-). Far edge flew, I don’t argue, in the region of 30-40 frames with AA, doom often sagged. Episode 2 on x700 (6600gt) was practically a slideshow, especially at the end of the game. I’ll say more on an old 2x nuclear computer with 9800gt, there are places with drawdowns of 25 fps, in HL2 (1280x1024) all at max +aa4.
