Review: Playability (by Bartleby)
It's finished! One of the main shooters of the year is already on the shelves!
But let’s start from the beginning... from the beginning... from the first part. Unfortunately, I missed Warhead, but I played the original, completed it, and subsequently advised many to play it! But I advised it not because of the plot, to which there are a lot of complaints, but rather for the sake of the revolutionary graphics (which for several years to come became the standard for all game makers and an excellent test of hardware for PC players) and of course the nanosuit! The costume turned the game into a kind of Superman simulator - bullets bounce off us, we jump higher than palm trees, we turn invisible, etc... but still something was missing, it seemed that we had already seen all this, and in fact this is how it was... such the impression that the designers took someone else’s game for each level and dressed it up in their own suit, the beginning of the game Far Cry, then Medal of Honor roofing felts or CoD roofing felts, the mission in the alien ship was terribly reminiscent of Pray, but when the island froze we were given a mission to help a partner who was left without a heated suit, leading him from one heat source to another... the spitting image of Lost Planet... into ours time it’s hard to come up with something new, but guys, not so obviously) But despite everything, the game, as it should have been, became a hit and gathered a huge army of fans who eagerly demanded more!

Eat quieter...
On February 11, an early beta version of the game was leaked and, of course, immediately spread to various torrent trackers and sites distributing illegal content. This version included a full storyline, running only on version 9 of DirectX, and of course, bugs, bugs, bugs... of course, many played THIS and spoiled their impression of the final version of the game, but in vain! After all, the impressions are simply fantastic!
More cool
The developers took into account their past mistakes and completely redesigned the game! The action was moved from the jungle to New York, it would seem like a cliche again... but no! We have never seen New York like this before, here the beauty of local attractions is mixed with the vile colors of the epidemic, quarantine and total destruction (fortunately, CryTek never had any problems from the visual side), and it looks simply gorgeous and, most importantly, is perfectly optimized and works without any brakes on far from top-end computers.
The plot is captivating from the first frames of the splash screen and constantly fuels interest with in-game videos, but it’s difficult to tell about it without spoilers! In short, the action takes place 3 years after the events of the first part, most of the world has been captured by aliens, and battles are constantly being waged against the remnants of humanity. Our hero, Alcatraz, serves in the reconnaissance forces, and together with his group heads to New York on a rescue mission, but everything did not go as planned... the submarine is attacked by an enemy ship, not many survive, but our hero is saved... THE PROPHET , squad leader from the first unit! The Prophet is infected with a virus and before his death he gives us his nanosuit... and, in fact, the powers to save the world!
The main thing is that the suit fits
Nanosuit 2.0 received some pleasant surprises! Special abilities are now turned on automatically - you need to jump high, hold down the jump, you need to speed up - hold the run button, which makes control much more convenient, and the gameplay even more nimble! In addition, customization has appeared - we extract a certain substance from the bodies of aliens and, using it, we add additional modules to the suit that can be switched depending on the game situation.
We invite you to evaluate part of the game walkthrough of Crysis 2 Demo , where you can see for yourself the quality of this product:
Review: Graphics
As in the case of the demo version, we have practically no graphic settings, except for resolution and three levels of graphics quality. At the moment, we can only enjoy the graphics in DirectX 9 mode, but thanks to long and painstaking work, we got a picture that is almost equal to the original Crysis in DirectX 10 mode. A patch with support for DirectX 11 will be released only after an indefinite period of time. We hope that this will happen soon, and we will be able to not only enjoy the unsurpassed gameplay, but also the gorgeous graphics...
As a reminder, CryEngine 3 in Crysis 2 supports real-time per-pixel lighting, reflections, refractions, volumetric glow effects (the “glow” effect) and animated textures to simulate windows, bullet holes, surfaces with sun glare and many other effects. CryEngine 3 shaders use a unified shader architecture that has been available since Direct3D 10.
One of the main innovations is the new Unreal Lightmass lighting calculation system, which uses global illumination without losing features that were implemented in older lighting systems. Improved work with multiprocessor systems - distribution of tasks between multiprocessor systems using Unreal Swarm, as well as faster compilation of C++ code and processing of Unreal Script due to the Unreal Build Tool (the latest performance increase will only affect developers or creators of amateur modifications).
We will only be able to discern the difference in the picture between DirectX 9 and DirectX 11 with the release of the corresponding patch, but for now we can only wait.

Less powerful video cards up to the level of GeForce GTS 250 and Radeon HD 4830 are tested based on Core 2 Quad Q9550 and Phenom II X4 940 BE processors, and more powerful ones are based on more powerful solutions. Overclocked versions of video cards presented by sponsors were equal to conventional analogues by reducing their clock speeds.
Our video cards were tested in three resolutions in normal mode and in 1920x1080 for NVIDIA 3D Vision technologies and 3840x1080 for AMD Eyefinity. Using our graphs, you can evaluate how your video card behaves relative to other modern solutions in almost all modern visual modes. We will conduct a more detailed test with the release of a patch with support DirectX 11.
Testing at maximum quality settings 1280x1024

At a resolution of 1280x1024 at maximum settings, video cards of the Radeon HD 4750 or GeForce GTS 450 level will be required, which is slightly lower than the gluttony level of the first Crysis, but with the caveat that it uses DirectX 10. Comfortable performance can be provided by video cards of the Radeon HD 5770 or GeForce GTX 260 level.
Testing at maximum quality settings 1680x1050

When increasing the resolution to 1680x1050, video cards of the Radeon HD 5770 or GeForce GTX 460SE level will be required. Optimal performance can be provided by video cards of the Radeon HD 4870 or GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 level.
Testing at maximum quality settings 1920x1080

And finally, with a FuLL HD resolution of 1920x1080, an acceptable level of performance will be shown by video cards of the Radeon HD 4870 or GeForce GTX 285 level. Video accelerators of the Radeon HD 6850 or GeForce GTX 460 level should be considered the most optimal for this game. If we proceed from the purchase of a video card specifically for this game , then currently the Radeon HD 6850 or GeForce GTX 460 look most preferable.
AMD Eyefinity Technology Testing
All our video cards were tested at maximum quality settings on two Full HD monitors combined thanks to Eyefinity technology in a resolution of 3840x1080. The panorama, thanks to the use of multiple monitors, is simply immense...
Testing at maximum quality settings using AMD Eyefinity technology on two monitors at a resolution of 3840x1080
With the use of Eyefinity technology, card performance decreases within 30-40% of the standard mode, depending on the video card model, which is not so bad. The minimum that is needed for comfortable gaming at a resolution of 3840x1080 is a video card of the Radeon HD 5870 level. For comfortable playability, we recommend a Radeon HD 6970 or higher model.
Testing using NVIDIA 3D Vision technology
The 3D Vision drivers do not yet have support or ratings for Crysis 2, but despite this, the 3D quality is at a quite decent level. The loss of performance when switching to 3D mode is minimal and amounted to a ridiculous 10-20% of work in standard mode. In 3D mode there is an internal frame limit of 60 FPS. You can check out the 3D video effects in Crysis 2 on the NVIDIA website.
Testing at maximum quality settings using NVIDIA 3D Vision technology 1920x1080

The minimum that is needed for comfortable gaming in 3D, at a resolution of 1920x1080, is a video card of the GeForce GTX 285 level. The most optimal solution should be considered a video card of the GeForce GTX 460 class or higher.
CPU dependency testing

We tested processor dependence on 9 models of basic configurations, which are the most relevant today. The test was carried out in those places where the video card value for the game is minimal and its load was less than 99%, but this time at a resolution of 800x600 with the minimum Gamer quality settings. The game is adapted for multi-threading and can use more than 4 processor cores.
Testing processor dependence at maximum quality settings 800x600

The most productive solutions for Crysis 2 are Core i 5, Core i 7, Phenom II X6 and Phenom II X4 processors. But even mSlower models will be able to provide a decent level of performance.
Conclusion on system requirements
To play Crysis 2 comfortably in DirectX 9 mode, you must have a more or less powerful card of the Radeon HD 6850 or GeForce GTX 460 level and a modern multi-core processor. In terms of playability, the game turned out to be simply excellent, but we are waiting for the release of a patch with DirectX 11, and we hope that it will be able to make the most of all its capabilities, returning the Crysis brand to the title of the most technologically advanced game.

We would like to express our gratitude to all manufacturing companies that were able to provide test equipment for our tests. GPU and we hope that in the future their number will increase significantly!
