Control is a fantastic action game from Remedy. Its events unfold in a certain secret agency located in New York. After an invasion of otherworldly forces inside the building, players take control of the organization and try to fight off the agency from outside threats using a combination of supernatural powers, firearms and wits.

GAME ENGINE

The game is based on the new generation Northlight game engine, which was developed by the Finnish company Remedy Entertainment specifically for internal use. Remedy Entertainment's previous titles, Max Payne and Alan Wake, were developed using proprietary engines created by Remedy. The engine used in Alan Wake, called the "Alan Wake Engine", was created using the Havok physics component.

For Quantum Break, Remedy created a completely new engine called “Northlight”. According to Remedy creative director Sam Lake, the Northlight Engine was an evolution of their storytelling process. The Northlight engine can supposedly capture facial capture using surface capture and 4D scanning better than previous developed engines.

 Remedy graphics programmer Ville Timonen claims that Quantum Break is the second game in the world to use DirectX 12, which was implemented in the Northlight engine.

“NVIDIA worked closely with Remedy Entertainment to create realistic lighting effects. Using ray tracing, the game added reflections for transparent and opaque surfaces, indirect ambient lighting, contact shadows for main light sources, and used DLSS technology for anti-aliasing and increased resolution.

The Bureau office environment is great for effectively implementing global illumination and reflections on floors and walls, enhancing image quality and creating a deeply immersive effect in scenes. Since all traced reflections are entirely dependent on the geometric details and dynamic lighting of the scenes, the world Control appears in a new form, unattainable without tracing.”

VIDEO MEMORY CONSUMPTION

Testing of video memory consumed by the game was carried out by the program MSI Afterburner. The indicator was based on the results on video cards from AMD and NVIDIA with separate screen sizes 1920x1080 and 2560x1440 with different anti-aliasing settings. By default, the graph displays the most current solutions. Other video cards are added and removed from the schedule at the request of the reader.

I would like a retest. On 6600xt at 1440p Control DX12 on the latest drivers (22.10.xx=>23.4.3) does not have enough video memory, although according to your tests this game has enough 4GB VRAm. It looks like AmuDe is using its 8GB video cards to buy 12 and 16GB.
