Battlefield 5 is the next installment in the Battlefield first-person shooter series, in which you will become a participant in the largest military conflict in the history of mankind. The events of the game will unfold on the battlefields of World War II. Gather a team of fighters with full personalization, your own equipment and weapons, and lead your comrades to victory.

 Take part in large-scale multiplayer battles in the Grand Operations and Joint Battles modes, or follow the fate of individual characters against the backdrop of global confrontation in the single-player campaign War Stories.

THE GRAFICAL PART

This subsection of our review highlights the main graphical aspects of this game. Particular attention is paid to the version of the graphics engine used, the version of the API used, graphic settings and the quality of development of the main visual aspects.

Battlefield V is supported on Windows 7/8 and Windows 10.

GAME ENGINE

Battlefield V is based on Frostbite Engine 3.5. Frostbite Engine is a game engine developed by EA Digital Illusions CE; used both in its own developments and in projects of other Electronic Arts branches. The first game created using this engine was Battlefield: Bad Company in 2008. The engine was developed to replace the technically outdated Refractor Engine technology that was used in the company's previous games.

There are many versions of the engine - 1.0, 1.5, 2, 3, 3.5, as well as a special version of the engine for mobile systems - Frostbite Go. An engine is a type of software and is a combination of several components, such as a graphics engine, a sound engine, etc. In the Microsoft Windows operating system, the game engine supports graphics display using DirectX 9, DirectX 10, DirectX 10.1, and starting from 1.5 - and DirectX 11. One of the stated features is optimization for running on multi-core processors.

The technology is capable of handling the destructibility of the landscape and environment. Supports dynamic lighting and shading with the HBAO function, procedural shading, various post-effects (for example, HDR and depth of field), a particle system and texturing techniques such as bump mapping. The maximum location size is limited to 32 × 32 kilometers of displayed area and 4 × 4 kilometers of playable space.  

In addition, it is stated that the maximum drawing distance allows you to see the level right up to the horizon. It also has its own sound engine, which does not require the use of specialized tools like EAX.

ADVANCED GAME SETTINGS

Battlefield V has a wide range of graphics settings, largely similar to all of DICE's Battlefield series. It is also worth noting that in December the game received improved DXR optimization both in the drivers and in the game itself.

DXR MODE COMPARISON

As we can see, with DXR turned off, there are reflections, but they are very mediocre, especially in glass reflections. Ray tracing produces more realistic reflections, and the higher the DXR level, the sharper the reflections. High and ultra-high level DXR, in addition to better reflection detail, adds reflections not only on mirror surfaces, but also on materials that allow them to be displayed (metal, gold plated).

All this seems to be nothing and the absence of DXR is not critical, but if you have already played with this option, you begin to notice that when it is disabled in the game, the picture in graphical terms is not the same... All video cards were tested at maximum graphics quality using the Action! program. The purpose of the test is to determine how video cards from different manufacturers behave under the same conditions. Below is a video of the test segment:

 Our video cards were tested at different screen sizes of 1920x1080, 2560x1600 and 3840x2160 maximum graphics quality settings in DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 modes. For RTX series video cards, the DXR mode was additionally tested with all quality settings.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX video cards are provided by LLC Business Development Center.

When resolved 1920x1080  an average FPS of 25 frames was shown by video cards of the Radeon R7 370 or GeForce GTX 1050 Ti level. Minimum FPS of at least 25 frames can be provided by video cards of the level Radeon R7 370 or GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. A comfortable average FPS of 60 frames can be provided by solutions of the Radeon RX 470 or GeForce GTX 980 level.

When resolved 2560x1440 average FPS of 25 frames showed level video cards Radeon R9 380X or GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. Minimum FPS of at least 25 frames can be provided by video cards of the level Radeon R9 290 or GeForce GTX 970. A comfortable average FPS of 60 frames can be achieved by level solutions Radeon RX Vega 56 or GeForce GTX 980 Ti.

When nLow DXR settings stable 60 frames at 1920x1080 will provide GEFORCE RTX 2070, with 2560x1440- GEFORCE RTX 2080, and with 3840x2160 Even the GEFORCE RTX 2080 Ti can't deliver a consistent 60fps.

VIDEO MEMORY CONSUMPTION

Testing of video memory consumed by the game was carried out by the program MSI Afterburner. The indicator was based on the results on video cards from AMD and NVIDIA with separate screen sizes 1920x1080 and 2560x1440 with different anti-aliasing settings. By default, the graph displays the most current solutions. Other video cards are added and removed from the schedule at the request of the reader.

DirectX 11

When using video cards NVIDIA an acceptable figure of at least 25 frames was shown by the FX 6300 or Core i 3 2100 processors, and an average FPS of at least 60 frames can be achieved by solutions of the level  FX 8350 or Core i 5 2500.   

When using video cards AMD processors showed an acceptable indicator of at least 25 frames FX 6300 or Core i 3 2100, and an average FPS of at least 60 frames will be able to provide solutions of the level  FX 8350 or Core i 5 4670.

DirectX 12

When using video cards NVIDIA an acceptable figure of at least 25 frames was shown by the FX 6300 or Core i 3 2100 processors, and an average FPS of at least 60 frames can be achieved by solutions of the level  Ryzen 3 1200 or Core i 3 8100.   

When using video cards AMD processors showed an acceptable indicator of at least 25 frames FX 4300 or Core i 3 2100, and an average FPS of at least 60 frames will be able to provide solutions of the level  Ryzen 5 1400 or Core i 5 4670 .

DXR

Technology activation DXR destroys the performance of all 4-threaded models, the minimum required is 6 threads. For stable 60 frames it is necessary to have solutions no lower than Ryzen 5 1400 or Core i 7 2600K.

The game uses a maximum of 16 computing threads. For a single company, 8 streams are quite enough.

RAM TEST

The test was carried out on the basic configuration of Core i 9 9900K with 32 GB DDR4 3200 MGz pre-installed memory. All used RAM was taken as an indicator. The RAM test on the entire system was carried out on various video cards without launching third-party applications (browsers, etc.). In the graphics, you can add and remove any resolutions and video cards as desired.
