Battlefield 4 Second Assault includes four fan-favorite maps from Battlefield 3: Operation Metro, Caspian Frontier, Gulf of Oman and Operation Firestorm, reimagined using Frostbite 3 technology and Battlefield 4 gameplay.

Battlefield 4 Second Assault is currently available for players with a premium account. 

THE GRAFICAL PART

This subsection of our review highlights the main graphical aspects of this game. Particular attention is paid to the version of the graphics engine used, the version of the API used, graphic settings and the quality of development of the main visual aspects.

Supported OS and graphics API

Battlefield 4 only runs on Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8. Other operating systems are not currently supported and are unlikely to receive support.

The preferred and primary graphics API for the multiplayer game Battlefield 4 is DirectX 11. The game operates through the Origin digital game sales service.

Game engine 

Battlefield 4 is based on Frostbite Engine 3. Frostbite Engine is a game engine developed by EA Digital Illusions CE; used both in its own developments and in projects of other Electronic Arts branches. The first game created using this engine was Battlefield: Bad Company in 2008. The engine was developed to replace the technically outdated Refractor Engine technology that was used in the company's previous games.

There are four versions of the engine - 1.0, 1.5, 2, 3, as well as a special version of the engine for mobile systems - Frostbite Go. An engine is a type of software and is a combination of several components, such as a graphics engine, a sound engine, etc. In the Microsoft Windows operating system, the game engine supports graphics display using DirectX 9, DirectX 10, DirectX 10.1, and starting from 1.5 - and DirectX 11. One of the stated features is optimization for running on multi-core processors.

The technology is capable of handling the destructibility of the landscape and environment. Supports dynamic lighting and shading with the HBAO function, procedural shading, various post-effects (for example, HDR and depth of field), a particle system and texturing techniques such as bump mapping. The maximum location size is limited to 32 × 32 kilometers of displayed area and 4 × 4 kilometers of playable space.

In addition, it is stated that the maximum drawing distance allows you to see the level right up to the horizon. It also has its own sound engine, which does not require the use of specialized tools like EAX.

The difference, frankly, is simply impressive and the new addition for Battlefield 4 has brought a new level of graphics to the game, making old maps shine with new colors...

General visual design and game physics

Battlefield 4 Second Assault is a unique addition, because it brought into the game those very favorite maps for which you continued to replay Battlefield 3 multiplayer from time to time. Well, in turn, we got the opportunity to test games of two generations on equal terms.

In addition to the improved visual component, we also received more advanced physical effects, thanks to which the physical model of destruction in the game was significantly improved and we were able to take advantage of this advantage to some extent in tactical battles.

All video cards were tested at maximum graphics quality using MSI Afterburner. The purpose of the test is to determine how video cards from different manufacturers behave under the same conditions. The average and minimum FPS were taken as performance indicators. Below is a video of the test segments:    

Our video cards were tested at different screen sizes of 1920x1080, 2560x1600 and 3840x2160 at the maximum graphics quality settings allowed by Battlefield 4 Second Assault. Battlefield 3. Tests were conducted with the same graphics settings in both games. Multi-chip configurations from AMD and NVIDIA showed an excellent increase in performance, which indicates sufficient optimization of the game for release.

With these settings an acceptable FPS indicator was shown by video cards of the Radeon HD 6870 or GeForce GTX 560 level. The optimal video cards would be Radeon HD 7770 or GeForce GTX 560 and above.

With these settings an acceptable FPS indicator was shown by video cards of the Radeon HD 6970 or GeForce GTX 570 level. The optimal video cards would be Radeon HD 7850 or GeForce GTX 580 and above.

MANTLE testing

This time, MANTLE technology was tested only on certain types of video cards and the result was directly compared with DirectX 11. The new architecture represented by the 290X received the greatest increase and reaches an impressive 25%. Multi-chips also received an increase of up to 10%. Older solutions based on the previous generation received a symbolic increase. But with 4K MANTLE this time there were problems where performance went into minus or even zero...

Testing of video memory consumed by the game was carried out by the program MSI Afterburner. The indicator was based on results on top video cards from AMD and NVIDIA with separate screen sizes 1920x1080 and 2560x1600 with different anti-aliasing settings.

The recommended amount of video memory usage for a resolution of 1920x1080 will be 1280 MB of video memory, for a resolution of 2560x1600 - 1536 MB of video memory and for a resolution of 3840x2160 about 3078 MB of video memory.

Micro-Stuttering Test

Introducing our testing of FPS output latency on a Micro-Stuttering monitor. The indicator was based on the results on video cards from AMD ARES II and NVIDIA GTX 780 at a resolution of 1920x1080 with maximum image quality settings.

Micro-Stuttering latency performance is at a very acceptable level in various modes and games. Multi-chip solutions showed lower latency levels due to higher FPS levels.

We tested processor dependence on 20 models of basic configurations that are relevant today. The test was carried out in those places where the value of video cards for the game is minimal and its load was less than 99%, this time at a resolution of 1920x1080 with maximum graphics quality settings.

 Battlefield 4 is already more responsive to AMD processors, showing much better results when using them.

And here we see that the optimization for AMD cores is organized much better, which brought such significant results.

RAM test

The test was carried out on the basic configuration of Core i 7 3970X@4.9 GHz with 16GB DDR3 2400 MGz pre-installed memory. The entire used operational memory was taken as an indicator. The RAM test on the entire system was carried out on various test benches without launching third-party applications (browsers, etc.).

As we can see, with different quality settings, the amount of consumed RAM is Battlefield 3 is at the 1200 megabyte level.

As we can see, with various quality settings, the amount of RAM consumed in Battlefield 4 is at the level of 1500 megabytes.

If you have a system with 4 gigabytes  Battlefield 3 consumes about 2.6 gigabytes of RAM. In the presence of a system with 8 gigabytes, the RAM consumption of all RAM was 2.9 gigabytes. With a 16 GB system, system memory consumption was almost 3.8 gigabytes.

On a 4GB system, Battlefield 4 consumes about 3.4GB of RAM. In the presence of a system with 8 gigabytes, the RAM consumption of all RAM was 4.6 gigabytes. With a 16 gigabyte system, system memory consumption was almost 5.3 gigabytes.   

Well, in conclusion, we can say that this was most likely our last review involving Battlefield 3. And if we compare these two games directly, from the user’s point of view, then Battlefield 3 has softer modes for video cards, while Battlefield 4 has more advanced graphic component. It can also be noted that Frostbite 2 consumes significantly less memory, but Frostbite 3 has better optimization for central processors. Of course, the choice remains with the user, but at the moment Battlefield 4, with the release of the Second Assault add-on, has become more attractive.

LEOPARD<br />судя по предыдущим поколениям и тому, что на сильное развитие цпу сейчас нет таких предпоссылок, в отличии от гпу - сомневаюсь.<br />а с видюхами ситуация простая, до этого года из столь требовательных игр был только кризис, а теперь дайсы подняли планку еще больше и скорее allго зададут тендецию в игрострое на большую требовательность продуктов к видео ресурсам. понятно дело ни нвидиа, ни ати не напрягались бы просто так, чтоб делать прорыв в производительности чипов, но с этого момента им придется эту самую планку тянуть. видео память так точно забустят. последние карты этого поколения вполне возможно уже осилят 4к в сли/кф (особенно из новых двухчиповок), а следующее, на новой архитектуре уже наверняка выдаст желаемое. на тот момент максимум выдет бф 4.1 на том же движке, с тем же графоном, и лишь парой новых пидарок, зато вывезет на впечатлениях при хай-энд конфигах

LEOPARD<br />вообще я от разгона наоборот уйти пытаюсь. за несколько лет он мне больше гемора принес, чем производительности. одно тепловыделение меня так задолбало, что я не пожалею деньги на кастомный СВО только под 2 видюхи, которые даже гнать не буду, поставлю all это дело в ящик и трубой за окно пущу. экстрим же мне нужен для вегаса и премьера в основном, там оно окупает всю переплату с полна.. к тому же all еще теплится надежда увидеть в ближайшем будущем достойные гпу, которые в батле потянут 4к хотябы на 90+ фпс или 1080@120 при 200% рендеринге (разумеется вплоть до квад сли), вот тогда то я еще больше обрадуюсь своему решению на счет цпу

loony01<br />по синтетике да, 4770 хороша) <br />но вот жаль, что all тесты в сети при сравнении процессоров обычно используют одну видеокарту) 780 SLI + 4930k в играх будет шустрее на +30%, особенно в тех, которые используют all 4ри и более ядра!!! Пример - Крайзис 3, использует 6 ядер) лично сравнивал! на 3820 на частоте 4500(а он практически идентичен 3770к) были просадки по игре до 37фпс (1080р + 8хсглаживание + ультра + 780SLI) На 4930к минимальная просадка до 57фпс (аналогичные настройки и система)<br />но если имеешь один ТОП или ниже) то конечно для игр 4930к НА.... не нужен :lol:
