BASIC GAME INFORMATION |
Year of construction: 2011
Genre: Action, 1st Person
developer: Crytek
Publisher: Electronic Arts
The world has been rocked by a series of environmental disasters, and humanity is on the verge of extinction. The aliens have returned with the firm intention of wiping people off the face of the earth, and they started with one of the most iconic cities on earth. The streets of New York are overrun by alien invaders, and a wave of living nightmares is gradually overwhelming the city and its inhabitants. The city's communications systems have been destroyed and buildings lie in ruins. You've never seen New York like this before.
Neither law enforcement organizations nor the US military machine can cope with the invaders, and everyone who did not escape in time is already dead. To survive in this chaos, you will need technologies that no earthly soldier has any idea about yet. One person will inherit what will help him survive. One super soldier, armed and equipped with the latest technology of the future in Nanosuit 2, will make a desperate attempt to save humanity on the streets of New York.
THE GRAFICAL PART |
This subsection of our review highlights the main graphical aspects of this game. Particular attention is paid to the version of the graphics engine used, the version of the API used, graphic settings and the quality of development of the main visual aspects.
SUPPORTED OS AND GRAPHICS API |
Crysis 2 is supported by Windows Vista/7/8 and Windows 10.
The priority and main graphics API for Crysis 2 is DirectX 11.
GAME ENGINE |
Crysis 2 uses the CryEngine 3 game engine. The animation engine is ANT from EA Tiburon. CryEngine 3 was officially announced on March 11, 2009, and the official release of the engine took place on October 14, 2009. The first game for which the use of CryEngine 3 was announced was the first-person shooter Crysis 2 from Crytek. In the center of the engine logo is a nazar, a traditional Turkish amulet against the evil eye (Crytek was founded by three Turkish brothers).
CryEngine 3 is a cross-platform engine, it supports IBM PC-compatible computers and game consoles Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3. Shaders in CryEngine 3 are written once in a high-level programming language, and then automatically compiled for each platform. Shader output is optimized through artist settings and for the XNUMXD environment in which the shader will be used.
Thanks to this, it becomes possible to create effects such as the “invisibility effect”, wet, dirty and frozen surfaces, which can be “layered” on top of each other and combined with other shaders that simulate effects such as metal, glass and others. CryEngine 3 supports real-time per-pixel lighting, reflections, refractions, volumetric heat effects and animated textures to simulate windows, bullet holes, surfaces with sun glare and many other effects. CryEngine 3 shaders use a unified shader architecture that has been available since Direct3D 10.
"Übershader" is a single shader program with many features: from one to four lights, light types, reflection cubemaps, fog, detailed textures, normal maps, specular textures, etc. Millions of Übershader combinations can be generated. Übershader uses dynamic branching, multi-pass splitting, reducing combinations, and accepting options with less functionality and lower performance requirements. Asynchronous shader compilation and a Distributed Job System are used to compile the shader cache.
Crytek focused special public attention on the ability of CryEngine 3 to support Real 3D and Ati Eyefinity stereo images, which, by the way, are in little demand now...
ADVANCED GAME SETTINGS |
Crysis 2 has a very wide range of graphics settings. We have both basic and advanced settings at our disposal. It is worth recalling that support for DirectX 11 mode in Crysis 2 did not appear immediately, but after a certain time after the release of the game...
Below we have provided screenshots of the game at various graphics settings, where our readers can see the difference between the minimum and maximum graphics quality settings.
DIFFERENT QUALITY MODES |
The difference between the various settings is visible only upon very, very careful study...
COMPARISON OF SMOOTHING MODES |
Activating anti-aliasing does not completely remove surface unevenness, but it does blur the image somewhat.
GENERAL VISUALS AND GAME PHYSICS |
At one time, many, many PC gamers were looking forward to Crysis 2 and were looking forward to simply incredible graphics... As it turned out, the graphics with the release of the game in some places turned out to be even worse than the previous part of the series, and the setting and scale of locations were cut down to suit the consoles of that generation. With the release of the DirectX 11 patch, the situation has improved significantly, but still, the game ultimately left me with a mixed impression...
Next, we will move directly to gaming tests and determine what impact this game has on modern computer hardware.

Our video cards were tested at separate screen resolutions of 1920x1080, 2560x1600 and 3840x2160 at maximum graphics quality settings. AMD CrossFireX and SLI are properly supported by the game, and scalability is more than 2 times higher than that of single video cards. This is explained by the fact that in single video cards the load is from 65 to 80% (depending on the generation), and in multi-chips it is full - 90-99%. This bug is caused either by the game itself or by the new Windows 10 OS, but the fact that there is an opinion that the developers are not interested in the fate of their creation is very sad ...
GPU TEST |
In the video card test, the default resolution is 1920x1080; other resolutions are added and removed manually. You can also remove and add any positions of video cards. You can also select any of our test processors from the list in the drop-down menu, comparing its performance with the given video card tests (by default, the most productive solution is selected).

When resolved 1920x1080 average FPS in 25 frames were shown by video cards of the Radeon RX 460 or GeForce GTX 750 Ti level. Minimum FPS of at least 25 frames can be provided by video cards of the level Radeon RX 460 or GeForce GTX 750 Ti. Comfortable average FPS frames can be provided by solutions at the level of Radeon R9 290X or GeForce GTX 780.
When resolved 2560x1440 average FPS 25 frames were shown by video cards of the Radeon R9 380X or GeForce GTX 960 level. Minimum FPS at least 25 frames can be achieved by video cards of the level Radeon R9 380X or GeForce GTX 960. Comfortable average FPS frames will be able to provide level solutions Radeon R9 Nano or GeForce GTX 1070.
When resolved 3840x2160 мinimical FPS not less than 25 frames were shown by video cards of the level Radeon RX 480 or GeForce GTX 780 Ti. Minimum FPS at least 25 frames can be achieved by video cards of the level Radeon R9 Nano or GeForce GTX 980. A comfortable average FPS of 60 frames can be achieved by level solutions Radeon R9 Fury X CF GeForce GTX 980 SLI.
VIDEO MEMORY CONSUMPTION |
Testing of video memory consumed by the game was carried out by the program MSI Afterburner. The indicator was based on the results on video cards from AMD and NVIDIA with separate screen sizes 1920x1080 and 2560x1440 with different anti-aliasing settings. By default, the graph displays the most current solutions. Other video cards are added and removed from the chart at the request of the reader.
