The Callisto Protocol failed due to lack of time for revision: confession of Glen Schofield
The Callisto Protocol, intended as a spiritual successor Dead Space, faced major problems following its December 2022 release. The game, developed by Striking Distance Studios and led by Glen Schofield, received mixed reviews, including a 7.2/10 rating from Wccftech. Despite the stunning graphics and atmosphere, the project was unable to hold the attention of players due to monotonous gameplay and insufficiently developed mechanics.
In a recent interview with YouTuber Dan Allen Gaming, Glen Schofield shared his thoughts on why the game failed. According to him, The Callisto Protocol had to be delayed at least three and a half months to complete development. However, the publisher krafton decided to release the game in December 2022, despite Schofield's warnings about the possible consequences of such a move.
Schofield noted that he was initially promised additional time for refinement, but plans changed at the beginning of 2022. As a result, the team had to speed up the development process, which negatively affected the quality of the product. Glen emphasized that speeding up development led to additional costs and stress for the team, which ultimately affected the final quality of the game.
