Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Remake Is Being Built on Assassin's Creed: Shadows Engine with Ray Tracing

Insider Tom Henderson revealed new details about plans Ubisoft for the development of the series Assassin's Creed. The next major project in the franchise will be Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag remake, which is being created from scratch on an improved version of the engine Anvil Pipeline — the same one used in Assassin's Creed: Shadows.

The main technical feature of the remake will be ray tracing support, as well as modern graphics technologies: global illumination, volumetric effects, DLSS and HDR. Ubisoft plans to implement a full rework of the visual part: an updated lighting system, atmospheric weather effects and improved water physics. All this should bring the remake to the level of current-generation games.

According to the source, the remake was originally scheduled for release on 2025 year, but now, after the release of Shadows was postponed, the premiere may not take place before 2026 years. In addition, before the remake, the following will probably go on sale: Assassin's Creed: Invictus multiplayer, and the mysterious project codename hexe with elements of horror is scheduled for 2027 year.

Ubisoft has not yet made any official comments, but given the success of the original Black Flag, it is expected that the remake will attract a larger audience. The game is being developed for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and will become one of the most technologically advanced titles in the history of the franchise.
