New Xbox skin may show Steam games — Microsoft accidentally reveals interface
Microsoft hinted for future unification Windows и Xbox in a unified interface for portable devices. In a blog post about the expansion of the Xbox ecosystem, the company briefly showed off an updated user interface that looks like a unified shell across platforms — including tablets, TVs, and portable consoles. However, the image was removed immediately after publication.
In the render shown you can see Steam logo alongside familiar Xbox elements. According to people familiar with Microsoft's internal plans, the company is developing an update to the Xbox app that will allow it to display all installed games, including those downloaded through Steam or the Epic Games Store. Each game will be labeled accordingly.
While this is just a prototype interface, Microsoft is seriously considering the idea of integrating third-party stores. Xbox boss Phil Spencer has previously mentioned that platforms like the Epic Games Store and Itch.io could potentially appear on Xbox consoles themselves, as a step toward a more open gaming environment.
At the moment, the development is at an early stage, and there is no guarantee that the final version of the application will support third-party libraries. However, the example of GOG Galaxy shows that this approach is in demand among players. Microsoft has not yet commented on the leaked image.
