Dragon Age: The Veilguard – New information about the plot and gameplay in a 15-minute video

Today BioWare unveiled the first 15-minute gameplay footage and published an information sheet revealing a lot of details about the upcoming action-RPG.

Plot

The fourth main part of the franchise continues the story after the events of Dragon Age: Inquisition and its additions. As everyone who played the previous game knows, Solas, the former companion of the Inquisitor, turns out to be the legendary trickster elven god known as Dread Wolf. His goal is to destroy the Veil between the world of Thedas and the world of demons in order to restore the ancient elven glory and immortality, without caring about the fate of the others.

According to BioWare, Solas successfully performs a ritual to destroy the Veil, but due to the intervention of a player (named Rook), the ritual turns against him, freeing two powerful enemies among the elven gods. Now Rook and his team must correct their own mistakes and stop these god-like beings, as well as fight other dangerous enemies such as Venatori cultists, demons of the Veil, darkspawn and others.

Locations and Biomes

Dragon Age: The Veilguard promises to show more of Thedas than any previous game in the series. Players will visit the Rivain Peninsula, the Grey Warden stronghold of Weisshaupt, the elven forest of Arlathan, the Tevinter capital of Minrathous, the Deep Roads, and many other locations. Locations will be varied: from bustling cities to dense rainforests, northern forests, ominous swamps, and deep dungeons. The main Weilgard camp will be located in the Lighthouse, where players will be able to rest and chat with their companions.

Companions and Storylines

The developers promise "some of the most exciting individual storylines" in the history of the franchise. The seven companions (Veil Jumper Bellara, Gray Warden Davrin, Necromancer Emmerich, returning Scout Harding, Mage Slayer Lucanis, Detective Neve and Dragon Hunter Taash) will offer expansive and dynamic stories exploring themes of love and loss. The player's choices will affect relationships with both individual companions and the group as a whole. Each companion has its own skill tree and unique equipment.

Player Character and Progression

Players will create a character named Rook using the most powerful character editor in the history of the franchise. There are many customization options available, including choosing a race (such as elf or qunari) and starting faction (such as Gray Wardens, Shadow Dragons or Antivan Ravens). The gameplay will be based on development through skill trees for three classes: Warrior, Mage and Rogue. As previously reported, players will not be able to directly control other party members, but will be able to use the skill wheel to perform specific actions against selected targets.

Additional Content

During a brief Q&A at Summer Game Fest 2024, BioWare confirmed that Dragon Age: The Veilguard will contain a large number of side quests, completely hand-crafted, without random generation.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard promises to be a rich and varied adventure, inviting players to immerse themselves in a new world of Thedas filled with unique stories and exciting gameplay.
