Switch 2 to support Lumen and Nanite with potential performance tradeoffs
In the latest episode of the podcast Digital Foundry Experts discussed the technical capabilities of the expected console Nintendo Switch 2. According to experts, the new console architecture will be able to support such advanced technologies as Lumen, nanite и Virtual Shadow Maps of Unreal Engine 5However, to effectively use these features, optimization will most likely be required, which may lead to some compromises, especially regarding the device's memory load.
Digital Foundry assume that for Switch 2 special versions of technologies can be developed to achieve the best performance. In particular, the lighting system Lumen can be adapted for the console if its hardware is optimized for such tasks.
The topic of performance in comparison was also touched upon. Steam deck. While the devices offer different gaming experiences, the Switch 2 has clear advantages: exclusive games from Nintendo and console-optimized projects. Moreover, Switch 2 can offer features such as NVIDIA DLSS, which will improve the quality of graphics in mobile mode.
