PCIe 7.0 Ready for Final Approval: 512GB/s Bandwidth

Organization PCI-SIG announced the release final version 0.9 of the PCIe 7.0 specification. This is the final stage before full approval, which is planned for the end of 2025. The new version of the standard Doubles the throughput, providing 128 GT / s on line and 512 GB / s in both directions when using the configuration x16.

PCIe 7.0 uses PAM4 modulation, which allows you to transmit four times more data per clock cycle compared to previous generations. The main focus is on increased energy efficiency, reducing delays and improved reliability of data transmission.

The standard is being developed for hyperscale data centers, high performance computing (HPC), defense industry и clouds. PCIe 7.0 is also aimed at such promising areas like artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) и 800G Ethernet.

As with previous versions, PCIe 7.0 maintains backward compatibility with PCIe 6.0 and earlier standards.

Key features of PCIe 7.0:

128 GT / s on line and 512 GB / s in x16 mode
PAM4 modulation to increase the transmission speed
Energy Efficiency and reducing delays
✅ Support 800G Ethernet and AI/ML
Full backward compatibility with previous generations

The full release of PCIe 7.0 is expected before the end of 2025, and the first devices based on it will appear in 2026 year.
