MSI May Have Revealed RTX 5080 With 24GB Memory - Bug, Leak, or Future Ti Version?
On the motherboard page MSI X870 Tomahawk Wi-Fi An unexpected line appeared in the video card compatibility list: GeForce RTX 5080 with 24GB of VRAM. This was the first mention of such a configuration, which not officially confirmed by NVIDIA. Considering that the standard RTX 5080 is supposed to have 16GB, the appearance of a variant with increased VRAM raises many questions.
It is currently unclear what this reference is related to. It might just be a mistake., made when compiling the list. On the other hand, there is a possibility that MSI accidentally revealed one of the future modifications of the RTX 5080, for example, Ti or Super option. This has happened before, when partners posted information about unnamed models ahead of schedule.
From a technical point of view, 24 GB is quite feasible: the RTX 5080 uses 256-bit bus, and by installing eight 7GB GDDR3 modules, the required configuration can be achieved. A similar approach has already been used in the RTX 5090 for laptops. At the same time, self-change memory configuration without NVIDIA's permission, it is impossible for AIB partners - therefore, if such a model does exist, then it is coordinated with NVIDIA, or it really is a mistake.
Interestingly, the listing doesn't include the standard RTX 5080 16GB, which only adds to the confusion. Until MSI makes an official comment, it's hard to say for sure whether a 24GB version is planned for release or if it's a test engineering sample or internal designation of the future product.
